Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and is the third largest city in Australia. It is situated beside the Brisbane River and has long shed its reputation as “a glorified country town.”

Brisbane has hosted major international events including the 1982 Commonwealth Games, the 1988 World’s Far (Expo ’88) and the 2001 Goodwill Games.

Brisbane today is a sophisticated city but still retains its ‘good bloke” Aussie aura.

Development has been frantic and in recent years thousands of southern states residents have flocked north to the warmer climate and stress-free environment.

There is a swag of historic buildings, none more prominent than The Windmill which was built by convicts in 1828.

The city is easy walking and low-lying so can be susceptible to flash flooding.

The Brisbane economy is a mix of white and blue collar.
