Kiwis Add More Polish
New Zealand are fast tracking their
promise to put the polish on their squad for this year’s World Cup.
In
one of the great World Cup coups, the Kiwis have certainly added polish by
recruiting Test legend Ruben Wiki to their coaching support staff.
Head
coach Stephen Kearney has enticed Wiki to lend his vast expertise of “big time”
football and assist in the preparation of the Kiwis challenge.
New Zealand is in need of a fresh
coat of coaching paint following the shock losses to England late last year in a
lopsided Test series.
First
came Kearney,
as hell-bent a coach on winning as you will find.
Now
along comes Wiki, a 55-Test veteran and about to contest his final year in the
NRL before jetting to England next year for a likely swansong season or two, or
three…
Wiki
is that resolute and resilient that he could probably play until he’s 40!
Now
35, Wiki has resisted the lure of playing another season of international
football.
But
money couldn’t buy his football brain, a brain that continues to function on
all cells despite having 15 tough seasons to its name.
Wiki
is as keen as Kearney
to restore pride in the Kiwi jumper.
“We
have got the players to do well and we will have the coaching staff to make
sure we are a definite chance to take the Cup,” said Wiki
