Eligability for the World Cup that will suit most situations...

Due to the recent Robbie Farah incident when he was told he could represent Lebanon, but if he did he would not be able to play for Australia or NSW for the next 2 years has got me thinking!

My idea would be that if a player was not selected for the first country of his choice (mainly either Aus, Eng or NZ) they be allowed to play for their 2nd country of choice! But, in doing this the 2nd country of chioce cannot be one of the Full Test nations! If a game is not being counted as a full test because the country playing is not offiicailly clarified as one why should it affect a persons chances of playing Origin or later playing for their first choice Country!

If the 2nd choice Country then becomes a Full Test Nation further down the track then the player must chose then where his future lies!

If people then are not happy because a certain country has a large amount of players playing under the 2nd country rule then you could make a limit of say 5 max that can fall under 2nd Country Rule. This would promote the game by show classing a good level of football around the world as well as putting more experienced players into situations where they can help develop the game in areas or Countries that mean something to them or their families!

let me know what you all think! Will be interesting to hear your comments!!!

its interseting and you make a good point scooter but its the changing that is making the game look ridiculous, i think the game can just about weather the over-use of "grandparent" players but not if those players are only making a token gesture to their ansectral nation until their "real" country comes knocking

for me once you play for a country that's it...you play for them and them only.

and do away with the grandparent rule please!!

I just think that until you can be relatively certain that a counrty is strong enough to be able to stand alone as a strong international side that has a wide and relativley good selection of players available, you need to be able to call on these others players that can help the team be more successful and profesional.

And I think you will find that the "local" players who play will gain great benift from being in and around more well known and experienced players.

and why not start using players from the irish amateur league?

i'm just saying i'd like to see the majority of the irish/scottish/welsh teams being blokes from those countries

Re: Eligability for the World Cup that will suit most situations...

Ireland had 4 players from their domestic league. I thinik the idea of teams having a minimum of 6 local players in their 20 man squads is menat to help them come up to speed, like your idea. But we need to give it time.

We need to have more meaningful matches where the pro players do ixc it with the amateurs and so come upto speed. Lets see what happens after the WC.

you wouldnt have any cometetive games you couldnt put the Irish team up against France or England if we were using only domestic players

I would like the majority of those blokes to be from their own country but it aint gonna happen if we want to have any level of competetivness

Re: Eligability for the World Cup that will suit most situations...

    Samoan Team 2000 Yes 2000.....

Willie Poching (captain) - samoa then kiwi

Monty Betham - Played for samoa 1st then picked up by the Kiwis
Henry Faafili - Samoa then kiwi

    Max Fala
    Maika Felise
    Beau Gallagher
    Simon Geros
Joe Gulavao - samoa then kiwi
    Vae Kololo
    Shane Laloata
    Mark Leafa
    Brian Leauma
Jamaal Loloesi - samoa then kiwi
Francis Meli - samoa then kiwi
    Laloa Milford
    Fred Petersen
Frank Puletua - samoa then kiwi
Jerry Seu Seu - samoa then kiwi
David Solomona - samoa then kiwi
Anthony Swann - samoa then kiwi
Willie Swann - samoa then kiwi
    Albert Talipeau
    Tony Tatupu

    Nigel Vagana - samoa 1995-98 - Nz 1998-06 Samoa 07

I am still clueless on why people think that they should stick to NZ when they obvious played for Samoa 1st!

I could go on in naming more?????? If the rules were to change & you have to play for the country you played 1st for, then NZ, Australia & GB wouldnt have a chance! Fijians, Tongans, Samoans, Lebanon, Cook Islands, would kick ass!!!!!!!

The Nz team should be called Pacific Nations even Australia should be called PI. Willie Mason, Brent Kite, Israel Folau, Willie Toga, Are all tongans......... Jonathan Thurston, Tony Carol, Karl Michael Hunt are Maori............................. petro civoniceva is Fijian......................

    why faasavalu?

he's never played league for any other country before

    he played union for samoa

this is why i want to see the RLIF put down concrete laws stating that once a player plays for one country that's it, he can't pull on the jersey of anyone else

we need to close the loop holes
