Predicted squad for Englands first match ?

Who do you reckon is going to be Tony's choices for team ?

After watching Sam Burgess at Huddersfield against New Zealand and some of the huge hits he is making at the moment i believe he will be starting nearly all games this time next year. He is improving so fast i actually do believe he will be Britains new "Sonny Bill" big hitter if he carries on and this is not a bias account as i am a Leeds fan through and through but he really is doing well. Obviously you will have the usual big names of Wellens, Peacock, McGuire, Pryce etc. But who else ? Whats your views on who should be in the squad ?

WHAT no Burgess... the guy was a destruction machine. I think he definitely needs to be in there to match it with the aussie fwds.

    1 P Wellens

    2 A Gardner

    3 K Yeaman

    4

    5 G Raynor

    6 L Pryce

    7 R Burrow

8 S Fielden/ A Morley (who knows about fielden hes been really poor last year, not that morley was much better but engalnd seem a differnt side with mozza there)

9 T Newton or J Clarke ( jon clarke opened our eyes a bit this year showing we dont nesacerally need fat terry with his permannatly cocked fist)

10 J Peacock (not a second rower anymore hasnt been for 2 year now arguably in top 5 props in the world)

11 G Ellis (again one of the best in the world for me HUGE work rate in defence and takes the ball up like a man twice his size, seems to do so much work he could have a third lung!!)

12 S O,Louglin (cemented his place with a machine like display in his games against he kiwis and a master stroke by smith playin him in 2nds)

    13. K Sinfeild (sh*t series this year but is the most classy back rower we have who can compliment the missing elements from Burrow and Pryces kicking game)

    14 J Roby

15 S Burgess/ J Graham ( revelation in the series this year further strengthening our very mobile pack)

    16

    17

obviously there are blank places and im sure there are in Tony smiths team too after all we have another domestic year to go before the WC and who knows we could be finding another Sam Burgess in the next 12 months

I'm an Aussie and admit I don't know a whole lot about many of the English players but last year i went to one of the Tri-Nations games that Great Briton played in and the player that most stood out for me was Sean O'Loughlin!

Its seems that he had enomous potential, and was easily matching and doing better than some of the Australian back rowers!

He has to be in their top squad!!!

    Scooter! Go the BRONCOS!:

thats pretty weird scooter in Engalnd we havent really rated Sean O'loughlin

but he plays lock for his club and at international level i dont think he has the ball skills or the brain to play lock

but his work rate is unbelivable he was top offloader and tackler in SL

unfortanatley he also lead the penalty and error charts, with a little more consistency in his game he could be a top player for us

i'm a wigan fan and i don't know anyone who thinks o'loughlin should be captain.  plenty think it affects his game sometimes.

when he's on form he's a really class player but the juries still out for a lot of wiganers i think.

prove us wrong in 2008 please sean ;)

    england squads??

let's see what happens in 2008 first...

tony smith doesn't shy away from youth and depending on how kevin penny, james roby and james graham go it could be an interesting squad he takes to the land down under.

Re: Predicted squad for Englands first match ?

Many people see Sam Burgess as a revelation, an almost messiah like revelation to a mediocre pantheon of props in the English game.

I find it farcical even “sacra religious” that he mentioned in the same breath as Shane Webcke. Burgess is no way the consummate professional and relentless toiler that Webcke was. Webkce was a warrior in the trenches, a grafter on the field and a comprehensive professional off the pitch.

The thing that concerns me about Burgess is the tackling style that one person on this forum views as similar to SBW.

At eighteen years of age when he has not yet reached his prime-his skeletal frame not yet at its peak the risk of injury remains real if he continues in that vain. The bone jarring shoulder charges which the crowds covet and elevates the hopes of a team does have a detrimental effect on the player utilizing this technique.

Webcke was by no means a spectacular defender but he was effective and efficient.

On attack Steve price doesn’t habitually fend off, swerve, shimmy, bump off many people but like the accomplished trade man that he is, he endow the back line with a solid platform to flourish.

People will point to Andy Farrell who was also young but Farrell at 18 was by no means a potent threat on defense and he often transcended to centre or stand off where there is less “physical collision area time”.

I reserve judgment on Sam Burgess just yet till he reaches his mid twenties. Granted he is a prodigious luminary of the modern game yet potential that remains unrealized is talent wasted.

I hope for the sake of rugby league that he is may be the second coming of the messiah rather than a façade who is the embodiment of Judas.

haha looking at my post looks like ive bin torn apart by the wolves already lol

yea fair enougth looking at it now it is a lil biaist towards the hull teams lol

but i think cooke should play for england his kicking game is 2nd to none one of the best kickers in super league and linking up with raynor on the wing :) with the cut out passes that scored so many for when he was at FC

and i didnt know that sculthorpe had retired lol so thanks for info :)

lol i forgot to add burgess i think hes one hell of  a player for only 18

and sean o loughlin i dont rate him very high hes an andy farrell wannabe lol id stick in sinfield there

who do you guys thinks englands best centre combo?

Re: Predicted squad for Englands first match ?

Based on form this season and the current International series my team would be:

     1. Paul Wellens

    2. Ade Gardner

    3. Martin Gleeson

    4. Keith Senior

    5. Gareth Raynor

    6. Leaon Pryce

    7. Rob Burrow-WHAT A PLAYER AND AN INSPIRATION FOR YOUNG KIDS GROWING UP PLAYING THE GAME

    8. Stuart Fielden (form wise he is an exception as he has had a poor year but he has a point to prove next year and will be a Man of Steel contender)

    9. Mickey Higham

    10. Jamie Peacock

    11. Gareth Ellis

    12. Gareth Hock

    13. Sam Burgess

    14. Danny Mcguire

    15. Adrian Morley

    16. James Roby

    17. Maurie Fa'savalu

Players who could be drafted in and the team wouldn't lose much are: James Graham, Sean O'Loughlin, Kevin Sinfield, Kirk Yeaman, Kevin Penny, Wayne Godwin, Joe Westerman (is an awesome young player although this World Cup may be a bit too early for him) Jon Wilkin, Ryan Atkins, Brett Ferres, Jamie Rooney, Jamie Langley, Rob Purdham THERES 30 NAMES ALTOGETHER AND AT THE MOMENT THIS WOULD PROBABLY BE MY 30 MAN TRAIN-ON SQUAD

i dont know mate as you can see i have left one centre blank there is no reason why chev walker cant fill that berth (when i saw him last he was a better attacking option than gleeson who i feel is so far behind international class its embarrasing) but first we need to find if chev can find his feet again in RL i hope he does

as for cookes kicking game, i take that on board but i think with having sinfield and cooke in the same team it could be a case of too many cooks spoil the broth
