Eligibility of Australian Players Playing for Overseas Clubs

How can the Australian National Coach decide that Australian players intending to play or currently playing for Overseas clubs are ineligible to play in the Australian National Team?  In most team sports, when there is a major international tournament, all players (whether playing at home or abroad) are eligible for selection.  Where would we be without our International Soccer players? Certainly not in the World Cup.  I am particularly irritated that Kingy from The Melbourne Storm was not allowed to be selected to play against NZ in the one off test.

Who is kingy from the Melbourne Storm? is he a new siging for them! and having star players such as Ben Harris, Nathan Blacklock, Michael De Vere and so on, not havin the opportunity to play for there country is a pathetic simply minded gimick in my opion. Some of those players would still be a great aset to there country. for example what if Nathan Wood or Vinnie Anderson wanted to play for NZ and they couldn't because a coach disagrees with it, is low on more then several levels.

Kingy? Matt King, played origin and test this year. I wouldn't mind seeing english players in the NZ and Aus team. If they a good enough than geographical location shouldnt play a part. However i can kind of see where the coaches are coming from, i think they select NRL players because they see them play on a consistent basis whilst exposure is minimal to the ESL in australia.

The kangaroos (and wallabies) have an unofficial policy of only selecting players that play in their domestic comps. i.e. NRL and S14. Anyone outside of that is... not excluded... but highly unlikely to be selected, usually doe to the depth in Oz. However this has not stopped players as Alfie langer and Lyon from being picked or considered.
