looks like samoa has some real talent so im going to go for samoa to win by at least 15 points. i cant really see who the play makers are going to be for samoa.

The Tonga/Samoa game is going to be awesome can't wait for that! Both teams are going to have an awesome forward pack. I would imagine Samoa will look to players like Motu Tony, Chase Stanley, Dave Solomona, Joseph Paulo and Jerome Ropati to create opportunities but I agree both Tonga and Samoa will be lacking generals at half back to boss them around the field. Tonga have Feleti Mateo who is awesome but again they are missing a quality number 7. I think across the board all the squads look very good but it's at halfback where most teams will lack the nouse and creativity to outgun Australia.

 

I have to say though I would be suprised if Samoa or Tonga won the game by 15 points, I think it will be a lot tighter and the rivalry between these two teams will make this match the best of the tournament I think. How awesome is it going to be being at Penrith stadium on 31st October for this match?!

hey sole i hop Samoa win. Damn Oct 31st- i need to beg mum for a plasma screen TV...LOL. I hope this year Samoa can beat some of the stronger teams like Australia or New Zealand

Lets say that happens, how do you see Samoan RL developing after that? Is there money / wnat within samoa it self to get RL to a high level or is Union just too dominant.

 BTW do you have any idea on the Samoan domestic results this year? I know they happened but they are no where to be found.

Mate Ma'a Tonga vs Toa Samoa will be the game of the Tournament! The League world will see the 2 most physical teams clash.  I call this game the Pacific State of Origin...

But looking at both squads & hearing from a few sources.  I think it'll be a tight game but Im going with Mate Ma'a Tonga on this game... simply because of the halves, which I think is the key!.  Feleti Mateo(Eels) (standoff) & Eddie Paea(Rabbitohs) (halfback) I believe will steer the Tongan team around the park.  With Toa Samoa I believe there halves would be Moty Tony or Nigel Vagana or even Sione Faumuina( who wasn't even named in the samoan squad) either one of those guys will play 6 & maybe Joseph Paulo(panthers) will be halfback.

We have a League show here in New Zealand called "Primetime" and they stated on there last week that there's whispers of Willie Mason missing out on the Kangaroos squad & will play for the Mate ma'a Tonga.

This would be a Probable Mate Ma'a Tonga side against Toa Samoa...

 I reckon you could scratch Tupou though.

 Australian selectors have a habit of not dropping anyone from a team that won last time round.

 I think Tup's will definitely be in the squad.
 

 

What an awesome team that looks and I agree they will be difficult to beat. I think Willie Mason will still make the Aussie squad and I think it will actually be Anthony Tupou who doesn't make the cut.

By the way sorry to break the news but I'm pretty sure Louis and Vinnie Anderson are both out for the season.

There was actually an interview with fraser anderson from the sharks in the sunday news here in NZ the other day, and hes saying that Vinnie and Loui prob wont be fit in time for the world cup to play for tonga, other wise he said he was pretty keen to play for tonga as well.  Hes an outside bet for the kiwis team, but says if his brothers recover in time for the cup, he may end up playing for tonga over the kiwis.  There was also an article on cooper vuna, whos been picked in the kiwis and tonga team, but has declared he is definately gonna turn out for tonga in 08, good stuff!

And nah i cant see Tupou missing the aus team, hes been in pretty good form aye.  Mason however has been in terrible form all year, his hands are letting him down, so i hope he turns out for tonga, but i believe the aus selectors will name him from past experiennce!  Hope im wrong though.  Cant wait for the tonga v samoa game

I'm a die hard Samoan Fan. but even i can say this game is going to be tight. But either way if Samoa or Tonga get through i want at least one of them to kick NZ and AUS ass . they talk to much..

I'm a die hard, mate ma'a Tonga for life... and I'll be supporting em for sure, but to be honest, if Samoa win, hell I'll support em through to the play off's too... I got a feeling the Tonga vs Samoa game will be one of/if not game of the tournament! Poly Style!

I know both packs will be hard and tough... but I got a feeling Eddie Paea (very underated, pretty good kicking game too) and Mateo will direct play etc to their advantage, and the Jennings/Willie Tonga centre pairing will make a big differece.  Anyone know what the Samoa team line up will look like?
