    Re: Expansion

Yep , run head long into a player or 2  , thats what we like to see, you finally getting the picture dogged, just have to mention some piont i heard about our expansion plans , from this statement last night on the N.R.L news which i heard will mean their is going to be no expansion for league in oz for quite awhile. Make you happy dogged?  To hear that.

Reason being is the loss of players to union and super league next 2 years.  The commentator threw up a good piont and i think this is why Gallop does not want to mention expansion until at least 2013,  The 2 new expanded teams in super-league will take around 16 players to fill spots and up to 20 might be heading off to the U.K , all quality players, now with the rugby union in france offering big money for league players we could see a few more quality players head that way.

So with such a large amount of players leaving to fill the gaps over-seas, Gallop is weary of expanding until we have filled the holes, this is looking good for the under 20 toyota cup players, the commentator said there is some fantastic youngsters coming through and they will get their chance to step up into the N.R.L , he gave special mention to a guy the bulldogs have at half called Ben Barba, and he reckons he's the best talent he has ever seen for his age.

I still think that perth will get in by 2013, only so we can release more talent into the game, melbourne has got their juniors coming through as well, i see that Peter "Braveheart" Wallace was born in melbourne, so their is talent down their, mind you he said he was brought up in N.S.W so this is why he is so clever and tough.

That will upset dogged, We are stealing talent right out of the melbourne heartland. Probably would have sat around drinking latee's if he stayed in victoria, not tall enough hey dogged, you lot are pathetic, at least the other states enjoy every game for every type player. Grow up victoria.

    Re: Expansion

Once again, you are displaying your ignorance! All I ask, is that you pick up a ball run full pelt at someone and get tackled. See how you go! And then do vice versa. But yes, as others on this forum have indicated, you are a pest with a pea heart and will not appreciate the realities of a truelly hard football code that you have never played. Yet as I have already stated, many RL players play GAYFL and other codes for training. Somehow I dont think you will ever get the message. You're a waste of time!

    Re: Expansion

    dogged:

That is embarrassing Druzik - terrible...only 5000 to an AFL game on the gold coast...what they should do is put an urgent call in to channel nine and get some tips....they have plenty of experience covering NRL games played in empty stadiums - it amazes me how the 'crowds' and these empty NRL games actually make any noise at all 0 they must park crowd microphones under every seat and turn the volume to 10...so yes mate it is bad and i think the AFL needs to get on the phone straight away to the NRL/channel nine becasue they've been broadcasting games from empty stadiums for decades...they're the experts....

NRL games rarely get that low and RL really has never had too much of a inferiority complex about it when it does... the AFL does, is seems like the only thing you guys seem to bang on about is your crowds, its not like there is anything else in your game to bang on about.

    dogged:

when the gold coast has its own team they will do better...nobody on gold coast would follow roos or west coast...

No they wont... you don't get it you need to test the waters first... the NRL for 3-4 years played several games with various teams in the GC to see if it would be popular... it was a hit with Carrara (as bad a stadium as it is) selling out and heaps of people having to be turned away, hence why they built a new purpose buils stadium for them... and they are selling it out. The NRL saw there was a market there people wanted it and so they gave it to them. AFL is not popular on the GC, face it. Nth Melbourne saw this and made a wise business decision not to go there.

    dogged:

and as for skills!? - mate kicking/catching skills of RL players are laughable - NRL players look so uncoorindated - really an u13 AFL player has far better kicking and catching skills that a professional NRL player and you would expect this because the whole game of aussie rules is based on kicking/catching...kicking/catching is not really a big part of RLeague....you just need to be able to run headlong into three stationary tacklers and keep that up for 80 mins....that's the main 'skill' you need...if there are skills in RL it's certainly not kicking/catching....and the so called precision in bombs and scrubbers you're talking about is very very basic stuff any u13s kid could do - and do far better...

hahahahahahahahaha.............. I am picking myself up off the floor, wait one moment please.......... if AFL players ball catching skills were used in RL or even RU then the games truly would get no where as they would be stoping and setting scrums every 2 seconds for knock ons! RU players have better ball catching skills than AFL players.

Even the AFL friendly media are cold on the sydney expansion idea

We kep saying this... the media is saying this... yet AFL fans put the blinkers on.

    Re: Expansion

what a bunch of hypocrits!!!,.,,,you all constantly, and incorrectly, moan about me ignoring posts and then not one of your even attempts to explain why a top tier RL team had an old and washed out AFL player on their list....how this 'hard' and 'tough' game had a player too old/slow/unfit to hack aussie rules yet had him and paid him for two seasons, including in a trial game for their top grade side....clearly RL is the easier game physically....

Western Sydney won't be easy at all...it is very risky and in the short term support may not be great...but even if it fails in the end it was worth a shot - and worth a persistant long effort (20 years)...swans and lions came good in hostile territory and on that basis I think the AFL is smart to have a crack at this area which has massive potential....if they never never go they'll never never know....the AFL is smart to give this a crack because the long term it may pay big dividends...

you try to pour cold water on Western Sydney....what about the Storm in Melbourne - the team with great on-file success, very little real support, no juiniors to speak of and never made a proft...they are a basket case and simply waiting to collapse...it's a case of 'when' will the Storm collapse not 'if' they will...

Not happy - but it is what I've been saying. Any further 'expansion' will be inside NSW/QLD. And I think Storm are finished in the long term. You should just accept RL is a NSW/QLD thing (and northern England thing) ...

Do i get upset by one melbourne player poayer RL...i don't think so...should i... ....do you get upset by the dozens of NSW/QLD kids drafted/listed to AFL clubs over the last few seasons?!

    Re: Expansion

Dogged for christs sake, Barich NEVER played a first grade game in two years at the reds. IF he played a trial game as you claim he has, even though you dont seem to have anything to back this up, have a think about it for a second. Do you not think that being in the reserves at a club for TWO years and never once cracking the top grade, even on the interchange bench suggets that he was never good enough, or fit enough to make it in the top grade???. Which is pretty bloody surprising I might add, the Reds back then hardly had a player roster to be envious of.

On your topic of the Storm having to be backed up by the NRL. The Lions and BEars were backed up for bloody years by the AFL, and they had concessions in the draft etc. North Melbourne right now being assisted heavily by the AFL, and although I havent looked into it any further im sure they wouldnt be the only club!. Id be very surprised if Richmond were not receiving some sort of aid.

Dogged PLEASE do what you said you were going to do countless times and just go, nobody wants you here, what do you get out of this?. Do you have nothing better to do than to check up on a Rugby League forum? are you that worried about it?. Find something better to do mate.

and AFL will be a VIC/SA/WA game.

Don't forget that RL is also a southern French game as well as a NZ game and a PNG game... RL will expand eventually, when it is good and ready. It does not suffer foiols lightly, unlike your game which seems to be full of them.

No we don't and there are quite a few young victorian kids as well as Western Ausdtralians now coming up through the ranks of RL as well. Again we do not have the inferiority complex like your precious game does... LOL, The AFL draft sounds like they are being forced to go and fight a cause they they don;t want to! LOL.

    Re: Expansion

I dont except that and neither do you dogged, it now is a n,s,w --qld -- and melbourne, soon to be a perth thing, and finally just announced today with the backing of queensland, another club in queensland, just to make sure your queensland adventure has more competition. So what you now are looking at is another queensland team who will get a nice new 25 thousand seat mega stadium along the sunshine coast and a new team also for perth, this will gain popularity straight off because the N.R.L has a huge following over there,

This will also call for another team in melbourne once the new stadium is up and running, you starting to see the picture here dogged, we are invading your territory and you have not noticed, because you think that we are not a threat, we have a relationship with soccer because we use the same stadiums, where-ever soccer goes we follow and vice verca , as shown by the queensland roar and also union at suncorp, now do you understand why soccer are the threat to your game in melbourne, do i have to draw you a picture? The more soccer expands the easier it is for union and league to help prop up the funding, not that we need help but we are doing it tough until our next t/v deal.

As for that guy you keep bunging on about, who the hell is he and why weren't we told about him, who was he, nobody ever heard of him, so as far as we are concerned, he never laced on a boot. You talk as if he was a bloody champion, he was a old aussie rules hack. Put out to pasture in a outdated perth comp.

    Re: Expansion

The best thing about RL now is it knows when to consolidate, and when to expand. And when it does expand, it does it in the right areas and in the right way. RU's talent pool in Australia is stretched so far its a joke. AFL isnt much better. They havent expanded since the Bears or Swans, and in fact have lost Fitzroy in that time. Theyre now playing catch up big time on the Gold Coast, if it happens. And Western Sydney isnt going to be much easier.

I am not worried at all if the NRL doesnt expand within the next 4 or 5 years. They will do it when the time is right, from the grass roots up. Like the Reds.

    Re: Expansion

Well the time must be right steve, i have just finished apost and gallop said today that there will be a new team in queensland, so i would say he meant the sunshine coast because they are screaming out for a team there, and he must be going to include perth to make up the numbers and bring them back because they are screaming, :" Yes Screaming " out for a team, ," you hear that dogged," Thats the sound of league coming to get you. hahhaa

    Re: Expansion

    Great news Oikee.

The Sunshine coast would be a great option, although I have heard alot of talk about a team in western Brisbane, ie Ipswitch area. The population growth there is second only to the gold coast I believe. Either way, the NRL will again establish themselves in a booming area long before the AFL have even opened their eyes.
