Its only 24,000 players better than Samoa and Tonga put together....Whats Samoa RL development system? Find any Kiwi or Australian with Samoan Parents or Grand Parents....

john ackland, was his first manager, the guy who discovered him. whats the big fuss if players want to play for samoa? let them play for who they want, even the tongans are walking, moimoi etc

Yup it would be great for International Rugby League if a Nation made up of heritage players who have more than likely never been to that country will do well in the World Cup.

tamatoa:
new zealand born samoans thats what it is. we live and breath the samoan culture, rugby league is a financial vehichle. new zealand b, I could say might as well call it samoa?!
And my point about France has just been proved, justified... if this is the attitude that is in the Kiwi side, you surprised they lost last year. AFAIK they are better off without them. I'd rather have a slightly weaker Kiwi team (or Aussie team or what ever) with genuine Kiwi players that have love and passion for their country then a bunch of wring ins that have no love or passion and only see it as an extra pay packet.
What happeed on last years tour wasnt Kembles fault, I met the guy, genuinely a really nice guy... maybe too nice. He was at the ground 90 mins before the match in Paris checking everything out (I know as I was there 2 hours before the game), meeting the only 2-3 Kiwi fans that traveled to Paris to see them. He was there making sure players were all OK that they had what they needed that their training session was done well... it was a freezing night.
I really do feel for Kemble.

You don't get it... the issue is not wheather they are eligible for one country or the other... most people around the world are eligible for different countries... if I played RL I could playe for Oz, Poland or Lithuania.... But I would have to chose one and stick with it. ALL sports around the world enforce this. One nation.
You just can't have a situation like Moi Moi or whoever playing tests for Tanga, then going with lawyeres finding some obscure ruling to go and play for NZ just cause he wants more moeny, play with Zero passion... and now want out again because he all of a sudden wants to be a Tongan again...
MAKE UP YOUR MIND!
This si why IRL is seen as a joke, despite the fact that over 40 countries play the game, its still seen as a joke because we have players just swaping and jumping around as they please... and NZ, Australia and the PI's really are the worst offenders of this. In Europe they at least are enforcing the rules.

Re: Sonny Bill, Steve Matai, David Fa'alogo and co set to turn their backs on the kiwis and rep Toa Samoa at the Cup 08''
exactly right druzik, people can piss and moan all day about who is eligable for what country but at the end of the day a player should decide and stick with that country. All of the players that swap and chop countries dont have passion. How can Moi Moi have passion for tonga if he ditched them to get a bigger pay cheque and now wants to come back because he probably wont get picked for NZ in the WC. Now all these players supposedly heading to samoa, its crap.
As you say druzik, maybe the reason the kiwis lost last year was lack of passion, , some of the players had it sure but you need to have 13 blokes with passion for the jersey on the field or it just won't work. Some of the young kiwis did well in international RL last year even though they were forced in too early through injury.
Europe doesnt have this problem, if a player plays for fance, he sticks with france, same goes for all euro countries. There are very few country changes in european teams, probably because the rules are enforced. The only countries that have had problems are PI's, NZ and Australia. Interesting to note that PNG doesnt have many player squables.

tamatoa, until it happens nobody is going to believe you, and i dont think it will happen. I would rather see the samoan team full of young samoan talent based in the NRL with no prior country commitments, players like Paulo, Sa, Setu etc, All these players are of NRL standard and have never played for the kiwis. Aswell as this the 6 samoan natives. I think the more players that switch from the kiwis samoa gets, the less credible the team gets. Infact with NRL and ESL stars and all i still pick tonga and ireland to knock them off. Atleast tonga will have some good young players like Mateo, Talanoa etc. I like what fiji are doing, they are actuallt devoling grass roots quite well in fiji and should see some greeat players come out of the FNRL. Now fiji is more than twice the population of Samoa, and you dont see any kiwis swapping to fiji, i dare say there would be plenty eligable.

And I remember when at bridgend and watching the 1st test on TV last year they had an interview with Maurrie Fasavalu and he said that even if not selected in the GB team he would not want to play for Samoa as his LOYALTIES lay with GB where he started his RL career. If he was not selected he said he would sit it out... That is the Loyalty and passion I want to see from players.

Re: Sonny Bill, Steve Matai, David Fa'alogo and co set to turn their backs on the kiwis and rep Toa Samoa at the Cup 08''
Yeh thats what it all boils down to druzik, passion and loyalty, there obviously isnt enough. Take me for example, i am eligable for australia aswell as france and scotland through the Grandparent rule. Now if i were good enough to be selected for any of these teams, i would choose australia for sure, not for the money, but because i was born in australia and played alll my league in australia, as a matter of fact i have never left australia. Now I have pride in my foriegn roots but i would not play for them simply because i know that australia would be my goal. We need more players to commit to the country they choose they should play for and stay there.

I really don't see a problem with that. Although I am a Samoa supporter.
