Looks like good news, hopefully with this getting out there we can start to fill alot of seats for this great event.

    Great news,

Hopefully they start advertising quite heavily. I got my tickets to the final the other day and I asked some mates if they want to go aswell and hardly any knew anything about it, and theyre all RL fans. As soon as I told them they wanted ticekts and so I got some for them too but it goes to show how much of a need there is for a huge lift in advertising.

Alot of people know its a world cup year, but hardly any know the specifics, or even if tickets are on sale etc.

Why Cameron Smith or Darren Lockyer wasn't holding it I don't know. Gasneir might not even make the squad, I havn't seen the best of Gasnier for a couple years. If I was a selector (on current form) I would go with slater at fullback, hunt on the wing an push inglis into centres. Now that might sound a bit QLD biased but I didn't think Gasnier has played well enoiugh so far, hope he does because he's a great player.

There's not enough focus on all the different nations taking part in my view. Why use Gasnier to promote it? He still carries a bad reputation in RL circles in Oz over his late night phone message to a young lady in SOO camp. A lot of women still comment about that incident when they see him on TV or in newspapers, so a very bad choice in my opinion.

Good point Rowly about 'that' text. There are plenty of others with squeaky clean reputations they could have used.

And I agree with you Jim, I wouldnt have thought hed be a shoo in by any stretch of the imagination.

    Jim,

The World Cup final is almost sold out!

I believe thet provided good weather occurs, there will be a large walk-up crowd on Friday night in Sydney.

I am dissapointed that the promoter/marketing dept. did not see fit to include the World Cup draw with the NRL draw that went to the public at large earlier this year. Many League fans and sports followers are unaware of what, when & where details of this tournament.

    Rooster.

Really! I haven't seen any figures since November on this. I hope this is the case, I hope all games get sold out or close to it. If you have some figures then be nice to see them up.

There are seats still left in Bay 733(directly behind a set of goalposts) and behind obstructed areas. But yes, it is all but sold out!

    Re: World Cup Advertising

I hope so, should be sold out by july easy IMO. Townsville AUS vs PNG will be the next to sell out I'd say, how often do people from townsville see australia play there?

It really suprises me how little people know about the WC. I posted about it on sportal forums and i got about 3 or 4 people say It's a joke because of the pools and lack of competition. Most people seem to think only 1 or 2 will get through from pool A. As much as like the current format, i think for the next WC we need 12 teams and a tradition format. The current format is not idiot proof. Alo of people will think the WC is a joke because only 1 of the top 3 will go through. You think these so called league supporters would know what they are talking about before they start bagging it out.

    Re: World Cup Advertising

I have the impression that the RL World Cup will be a success. People can ridicule the game, but the product is essentially superior to all football codes with maybe soccer as a worthwhile sporting peer! It is only the biggotted and unsporting policies of football codes such as rugby union & Aust Rules that have played a major part in inhibiting the inevitable growth of RL in both Australia and worldwide. As I have stated, the worst maketing mistake for the RL World Cup was not including the draw with the NRL draw earlier this year. It can only get better!

Soccer's appeal is really only one... and that is the nature of that sport. A team of almost amateurs can still potentially beat a team of full pros. No way can this happen these days in Rugby League or other codes. But even still this is starting to disapear in Soccer with a select group of clubs having all the money and buysing players and ensuring success. Though this years FA cup still has shown the "volatility" in soccer game. Thats what fans go to see that small chance of someone maybe getting in there. Though am hoping Widnes, Barrow or Haven can cause an upset this weekend in the CC! :)
