Re: What is happening with merchandise ???

    Clive Woody:

Will league ever get it's act together. Rugby went professional in 1995, league went professional in 1895 yet still acts like an amatuer organisation. This is league world cup year and still no merchandise on sale.

    Genius bit of marketing there.

Yes it is true, but there have been many factors over the century that have restricted the spoorts expansion to speak... internal as well as external. I think the two greatest damaging moments were between 1939-45 and 1955-1960 when the sport really, really could have taken off and was given kicks in the guts externally and internallay.

But look don't despair, some countries are actually doing heaps to promote the sport and get their kits out. Today I recieved this press release from Rugby League Deutschland.

"Rugby League Deutschland have signed a 3 year Kit Deal with leading sports kit manufacturers Kukri. The deal will see Germany receive a certain percentage from sales as well other incentives. The kit will also be available to buy via the Kukri website in around a couple of months. Mike Gamble from Kukri said " We are very glad to work with Rugby League Deutschland and have been impressed with the work they have achieved since 2005. We feel that we can both help each other open new doors to different markets and promote Rugby League Deutschland and Kukri to many more people.".
After the deal was announced, President of Rugby League Deutschland, Simon Cooper said " We are very happy that a high profile company like Kukri want to work with us. We aim to make more positive steps with developing Rugby League in Germany in the future. We feel by having Kukri with us then we can become more self reliant and develop the game to a wider audience both in Germany and abroad

Was more than just outlawing... all the assets were stolen and money taken... basically if you were caught playing RL then you'd be in gaol. A lot o "money and assets" are actually rugby leagues... its something that the RU lot try to conveniently not talk about. MOst RU fans wouldn't even have the faintest that it happened. There are some great books on the topis out there.

But lets not get into politics.

    Re: Druzik comment:

RUs treatment & policy toward RL since 1895! I think that is what was being alluded to.

I agree this message should be put out there. We need people to know how our sport has been discriminated against because it is still happening in some circles

Re: What is happening with merchandise ???

The RU realised early on that RL was a genuine threat to its survival. Through using the establishment ie:school system and friends in high places RU has limited RLs growth over the years. It is only now that both codes are proffessional that a contest for the marketplace is appearing. RU is stealthily adopting many RL rules to quicken up its game. The major advantage RL has over RU is the playtheball rule which takes about 3 seconds to complete a ruck, whereas RU still has slower flow in play, courtesy of its maintenance of the ruck rule (which has significantly become similar to RL play the ball but not exactly) I doubt any other sports code has had another code trying to kill it off at every opportunity.

There is something seriously corrupt and unsportsmanlike about RU administration over the years, and this has virtually gone unnoticed. The centenary of RL in Australia is a perfect opprtunity to convey the biggotted policy of RU toward RL. Lets hope we can educate the general public as it is unfair and a blight on sport if this past & probably future treatment is hidden!

Had it not been for the underhanded policies/treatment by RU toward RL , RL would have been the dominant rugby code worldwide today! Perhaps educating the masses about such biggotted policies will go a long way to changing even RU supporters minds about RL and question there support of RU!

Its pretty piss poor that there is a new link to the shop with a pic of some store with merchandise on display yet you cant bloody buy any? Complete joke!

There should be jerseys for sale for ALL 10 participant, not the usual 4/5!!!!

Agree. Every side should be promoted as it will only add to the flavour of the World Cup.
