    Re: World Club Challenge

the whole town of halifax is buzzing!!

this is a boost for rugby outside of super league and hopefully they'll get a healthy crowd on

as for the WCC it will be interesting to see how the teams go as leeds haven't really signed anyone and melbourne have lost a few players

    Re: World Club Challenge

Good to hear that's the case. I remember last year the Broncos had their warm up agaist the celtic Crusaders and it was huge for them. Got them on the map as apparently they had like all day live feeds and stuff... got over 2000 people which was a record for the Crusaders apparently and they were NL2!

Halifax are NL1 no, so this would be an awesome game for them, as they have been ex-tof flight. Are they an M62 town as well? ;) I suggest anyone who is in the UK and cannot get to the WCC itself then go see this game... hell go see both! I would.

    Re: World Club Challenge

One reason really, the English season is into about round 4 by that stage where as the Aussie season hasn't started, so its easier for the Aussies to travel than the Pom's. But a few games have been played in Oz in the past and results were 1-1 with a Brisbane v Mariners game that Brisie won at erricson... super league days.

The Storm are one of the few Oz teams to win the WCC and will do it again in 2008.

because the Aussies usually claim the game is pointless, so people are a bit wary of holding the game in Aus, you are guaranteed a 20,000 crowd in the UK

Halifax is very close to the M62 dan, they are probly one of the oldest clubs in the game with a great history (5 challenge cup wins), should be a great occaision for the club and its supporters and for the Melbourne Storm club too, far, far better than a game in Wales against a faux-aussie outfit.

    Re: World Club Challenge

I know the WCC is long gone and the next one a long way away but i have been thinking about it just now.

I think the WCC does not have any credibility amongst most Australian fans. Now not me, I love the game, but as long as all games are played in England alot of People will not take it seriously.

My proposed plan is this; The WCC be a 3 team competition. The 3 teams would be:

    1. Super League Champions
    2. NRL Champions
    3. "Best Of The Rest"

Now the "best of the rest" team would be the winner of a tournement. The tournament would be open to any team that won their home countries domestic competition. Any team at all, from the german domestic comp, AMNRL, Czech Domestic comp, Elite, any top grade domestic comp at all but not the Australian or English. So then there would be a knockout tournament (much like challenge cup), where the winner would win the right to play (get hammered by) the NRL and ESL champs. This would be great in 2 ways IMO:

    1. Would encouage domestic teams anywhere to try reach the top and would be a big boost for International RL.

    2. Would eliminate the Home-Ground advantage somewhat because every country represented has a home game.

So as an example here, we'll say Broncos are NRL champs, Leeds are ESL champs and Jacksonville Axemen are the "best of the rest" (BTW just though of the first teams that came to mind). Then just randomly draw who gets who at home.

Leeds Vs Axemen @ Elland Road
Axemen Vs Broncos @ Municiple Stadium
Broncos Vs Leeds @ Suncorp Stadium

Now, Another option I suggest (In the mean time) is take the 1 game to a neutral venue, USA most likely since that has been rumoured. Then atleast no team can claim the home advantage.

Who knows maybe one day we will see a WCC where no club is from England or Australia, Catalans, Warriors, "best of the rest", Celtic, Warriors, "best of the rest", Toulouse, Southern Orcas, "best of the rest".
