OK so i started thinking about this again recently, and there are a few option i want to discuss.

First, the amount of games played, should the 2009 4N be the same as tri-nations in the past with each team playing each other twice? or will once be enough? Also top 2 into final? or 1 into final 2Vs3 for qualification into final. I think it would still be great to have each team play each other twice.

Now onto venues, would it be best to have games played in all 4 countries or just the 1 host nation? I have to say I'm for games in all 4 countries. 3 games in each country! plus the final hosted by 1st place.

I think if this tournament is going to be played every year except the years when there's a world cup on they should only play each team once. Personally I would like this to be played every two years and have an extended competition where each team plays each other twice. If each team did play each other twice the tournament could start off in the Northern Hemisphere for the first games and the last games could be in the sopthern hemisphereto decrease the amount of travel.

I think the final should just be 2 teams while there's only 4 teams in the competition. I don't like it how in the NRL and in the Superleague it's very easy to make the playoffs.

For the venues, if all the teams only play each other once I hope it doesn't happen where Australia plays NZ at home in 2009 and then recieves 3 homes games in 2010. The same thing with France and English games, all countries should get the same number of matches. I also hope that each game is played in a different city of the country.

I agree that they should only play each team once. i personally think that the footy season drags on too much.It will be interesting how the world cup competes with the start of the cricket season

The Aussies weren't just missing their two best they were missing a fair few more than that. Karmicheal Hunt, Justin Hodges, Darren Lockyer and Jonathon Thurston, the latter of the 4 makes a HUGE impact.

Are you referring to the Australia vs Great Britain game that was played at the Sydney Football Stadium in 2006?  If so, then you're wrong about Lockyer and Hunt.   Here is the the XVII that played for Australia on that night.

Australia: Karmichael Hunt, Brent Tate, Mark Gasnier, Jamie Lyon, Greg Inglis, Darren Lockyer (captain), Ben Hornby, Mark O'Meley, Shaun Berrigan, Petero Civoniceva, Willie Mason, Nathan Hindmarsh, Luke O'Donnell.
Interchange: Cameron Smith, Anthony Tupou, Brent Kite, Antonio Kaufusi." BBC Sport

    Re: Four Nations

i have an idea for the finals well it sorta is

    semi final 1

team 1 v team 2    then winner advances into the final, loser plays winner of semi final 2 to decide who goes into the final with the other team

    semi final 2

team 3 v team 4  loser gets knocked out , winner plays loser from semi final 1

Good point!  McGrath said the Australian Test cricket team would win the 2005 Ashes series 5-0. Never happened, did it?
