Ok thanks :) but i just think that the RFL/RLIF won't promote it enough to make people watch it (in England). and when the world cup is over and if England do win it then nobody will care and it won't get any media attention (i bet if you ask anybody "do you know there's a rugby league world cup this year?" i bet they would say no, i'm talking about asking anybody who doesn't really follow the sport) . if nobody watches the England friendlies against France (June) and Ireland (August or October...?) then how do you expect them to watch the world cup?

i know this sounds weird but i'll be quite annoyed if it doesn't get any media attention and if nobody cares because it's the greatest game in the world. i can see why it's Australia's national sports :)

Your points are valid. Lets trust in the powers. Richard Lewis seems to be doing a good job so far, Gallops not too bad either and Colin Love should at least not send this WC broke... I know ppl complained about his $300,000 to run the tournament but its piddly compared to what some sports admins get. I am happy he didn't ask for more!

If there's no adverts near the end of the super league season ( not counting eddie/stevo talking about it and showing the dates on TV after the last few games of super league) i will be quite annoyed. they need to put adverts on normal TV (BBC etc, i think BBC have highlights of the games)

I'm sorry mate but the people in the UK are more likeley to watch and care about IRL than the Australians your kidding yourself if you think different, i would imagine that a huge amjority of people in Perth or Melbourne dont even know theres an RLWC this year

There is only so much the RFL can do, who BTW do a superior job at promoting IRL than the ARL ever have.

note: England football is starting to go down hill because of promotion and relegation.

no it isnt, england football is going downhill because the few quality english players we do get are made into gods before they turn 20 so they dont have the hunger.

Its not the RFL or Sky they do their best with the limited recources available to them, the RFU and FA throw money at sky and specially make programmes for sky to show, for free RL CANNOT afford this, the editors of every daily paper in the UK treat RLwith contempt what do you expect the RFL to do?

If you think the BBC are going to push RL then your deluduing yourself alex the BBC is part of the "old boys" network "you scratch my back, ill scratch yours" however exiting RL is they dont wanna know, because they have had it hammered into them by their fathers and their fathers father that RU is superior to RL

Nice... am a bit partial to the Leeds fellkows myself, quite enjoyed my stay in Leeds last year for the GB v France test at Headingly, nice ground. I then watched Leeds hammer St's (WOOT!) at the OT in October... I have put up a YouTube vid of the night http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ei4z2-8Cg8w .

Im not overly positive people will watch the world cup mate, I just dont see how you think that people in Aus will watch it either, I have said for months I dont even think the games will be well attended.

The reason being is the RFL work harder at promoting the Tests than the ARL ever have.

I may be wrong here but i think that RL in places like Perth and even to an extent Melbourne RL is not very popular so RL wont get the attention over there either.

Plus the only thing most Aussies care about is there club side, they couldnt give a stuff about Scotland or Tonga

More people turned up to watch Tonga V Samoa in Leeds than they did in Aus, and Australia could only get 26,000 to a test between Aus and NZ in Sydney!!! THEY DONT CARE AS MUCH AS WE DO ABOUT IRL ALEX!!!

Well unfortuanatly it wont be and theres no piont tormeting yourself thinking it ever will be bigger than RU, I agree no other sport is as exiting as RL

As for football I think many people in the UK just follow football because all there mates do the same, i like football and enjoy it but i prefer RL.

Marv normally I would have agreed with you, but I came across this article...

    http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/07/19/1026898917598.html

Maybe things are changing... Aussies are starting to givie a damn about the international comp... I guess we'll see in October.

Re: 1) should there be one? and 2) will people watch it

i think that the rfl construct the ESL better than the football association do with the premier league. the premier league isn't competitive ( E.G. man utd (top) v derby (bottom)= man utd win...... ESL  rhinos (top) v castleford (bottom)= castleford win) and the premier league has 2 much money and they dont even use it for producing young players! the ESL has a salary cap and a foreign plyrs cap (limited foreigners in a team) and that helps produce young, great talent (E.G. sam burgess, james roby, luke burgess, kyle eastmond).

overall i think that the rfl and ESL have like gone forward in time and looked at what problems football will have and tried to avoid them and the premier league dont care as long as it gets millions of £s. the rfl and ESL care about the sports health and where it will stand, i mean i cant believe that football couldn't think of Millennium Magic!! and the RFL could, it shows that the rfl and ESL are thinking ahead!!!!
