    Leeds not releasing players.

I really hope they can come to an agreement. I realise its a knockout game for Leeds in the Challenge Cup, but as far as im concerned if a player wants to represent his country it should be the top priority for all clubs, and they should release any player with a smile on their face. There are also reports suggesting Wigan do not want to release half back Thomas Lueluai. Brent Webb and Lueluai are two big players for the Kiwis, especially considering Benji Marshall has ruled himself out.

Mclennan is a good coach too, its a shame he left the kiwis.

International RL law says that all clubs must allow their players to represent their country, so im sure it will work out for the Kiwis in the end.

Leeds is a class team, with a great academy set up, they should have no problems covering 7 players out!

well webb and leuleui have been named in a 19 man squad. If they don't play it's bullsh*t, especially leuleui, wigan have drawn a NL1 club FFS!

Particularly if whitehaven play like they did aginst Lezignan then Wigan will have no probs.

Widnes - Hull looks like an interesting match up though.

Interesting watching an interview with kearney this morning, he said "I expect them (Webb and Leuleui) to be arriving in sydney on monday, unless I'm told otherwise they're playing". So he sounds adamant they'll play.

who cares what the clubs think! this is starting to really piss me off. soon it will be players not allowed to play the world cup cos there club doctors say theyve got an ingrowing toenail! when will clubs realise that the best way to promote our game is through strong international competition! ahhhhh! the only place we lack behind union, and where they get all there financial clout, is there international scene. im not saying go as extreme as union (its a joke that english players never play in the guiness prem, no wonder theyre sh*t), but a strong international profile will lift popularity, juniors, media etc. Clubs need to start thinking of the big picture.

ps this isnt having a go at u kiwi fan.

the sad thing is that it has happened in the past players have been held back because of Doctors orders from clubs and i hope it doesnt happen at the world cup we want all our teams 2 be at full strength and show the world how exciting a well over due league world cup can be

Webb and Leuluai free to play

    Yahoo!Xtra Sport - May 2, 2008, 1:52 pm

Brent Webb and Thomas Leuluai are free to play for the Kiwis in the Centenary Test against Australia.

Despite heavy opposition from their respective Super League clubs the Rugby League International Federation has decided the Kiwis pair should be made available to play.

In a statement released today the executive of the RLIF supported the rights of the New Zealand Rugby League in selecting Brent Webb and Thomas Leuluai from the Super League Competition to play in next Friday's Centenary Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

A telephone hook-up between RLIF Chairman, Mr Colin Love AM, RFL Chairman, Mr Richard Lewis, and RLIF secretary Mr David Gallop examined an application from the two clubs concerned that they should not release their players.

The RLIF Executive determined that there were not sufficient grounds to vary RLIF Rule 4.1 which states:

"Except as otherwise determined by the Board in respect of a particular match ... a player who has been selected to play a Senior International match approved as such by the Board for a country for which he is eligible :-

    a) must be made available by his club for all such matches for which he is selected and for training sessions where possible..."

Should the players not arrive in Australia for next Friday's Centenary Test they would be ineligible to play in the corresponding round of Super League matches.
