    Matt Henjak

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/02/22/2170038.htm?section=sport

Disgraced Rugby Union plauyer Matt Henjak has been sacked by the Western Force Super 14 Side. Henjak now has an 'open door' so to speak to join the NRL. Henkas Manager has already sent the word out to NRL teams. Henjak was sacked for breaking a team mates jaw in a public place.

What are people's thoughts on this? should anyone try and pick up Henjak? or should we let him go play union in England or France?

My opinion is that atleast 1 or 2 teams will make him an offer, however he is an overpaid union player and most NRL clubs don't have much left in the salary cap since the season is about to begin. I think it would be great to pick him up, he was a great union player from what i've heard and if he can transfer to league without much problem than he could be a great find for Australia in the WC. Plus it would be nice to gain a quality player off union since they have been stealing some of ours over the years. Anyone know if he is related to Ivan Henjak? If ivan was related that could swing thiongs the way of the NRL with his signature.

    Re: Matt Henjak

Sorry jim, i have just finished  having a go at the biff the other day and saying what a bad look that is for the game, if i say henjak would and should come over to league, then i am saying that we should allow any thug into the game. No sorry, keep him out, they need to have a code across all codes to stop players from doing this, if they mess up, like wendall salior did, then keep them out until they do there time, he can get a job like the rest of us?

    Re: Matt Henjak

I hear that he is over rated as well. Is he the multi million dollar player they signed a couple years ago?

    Re: Matt Henjak

Dont really know much about him druzik, all i heard was he played league then went to rugby union, look nobody is worth that amount, even lockyer gets half a million, now if you put that against a player who has no public interest, where the hell is league going wrong?

    Re: Matt Henjak

Look know littöe about him too... didnt know he played league. Well the worth of players is another issue, some argue that they dont get enough for what they go through. But from everything I am reading RL does not need him.

    Re: Matt Henjak

Yeh i don't know much about him myself, have never seen him play, to be honest i didn't even recognise the name when this first came up. Still though i think if a league club can pick him up for a reasonable price then he could be a find. I don't know the details of the incident, all i know is there was a fight and he broke his team mates jaw, lets be honest though it's not the first time something like this has happened. If there are 25 players that you associate with as team mates then you are really bound not to be friends with atleast 1 of them. I know the last 5 years i've played that there have been players that i didn't like one bit as a person but still you put up with them because you are a team and need to work together. Had it been henjak whose jaw was broken then the other bloke would have been the 'thug'. Besides i think too much pressure is placed on players these days to be role models, lets face it, nobody is perfect. I mean NRL players can't really do anything without being caught, an example is willie mason being caught urinating in public, if you or i did it, (which, i'll be honest, i have) there would be little chance of being caught and even if we were nobody in the world would give a crap, not like it would be in the paper the next day "LOCAL MAN DISGRACED, CAUGHT PISSING IN PUBLIC" but with mason it was a major incident, one question, who the hell cares? Im not saying what mason did was as bad as what henjak did but at the end of the day everyone will get over it.

    Re: Matt Henjak

Different cenario jim, everyone has to go sometime(piss)  now if willie had broken someones jaw, you imagine the front page news?

Look i know where your coming from, i though our winger was a real *** and had to have him in our team, he was the fastest guy in the under 6 stone?

But this carries baggage with it and is not a good look for n.r.l  if we want to keep the game hard but clean, we have to set good examples, not bad.

Look at the fuss the union made about him, with public looking on, all of a sudden n.r.l says hes ok, we will have him, no,  let him do his time, then fair does, he might have learnt something, and if he still wants to come to league, then good, bet you he wont?

    Re: Matt Henjak

Yeh like i said im not really comparing urinating in public to breaking a team mates jaw, i was using that as an example, i think too much pressure is placed on sports stars these days to be role models. The Thurston incident is another like this, lets face it if me, you did it nobody would care but since it was the worlds best league player today it is big news. CRAP IMO.

Look I personally think it would be a good idea to try and sign him for 2009 or 2010, so by the time he actually plays league most of the dust would have settled on the situation. Besides David Gallop said if any club made an approach to Henjak that the NRL would have to review the situation, so if they find him clear to play then its fine by me. Anyway whats wrong with the bad boy in Rugby League? In some ways they are great for attracting attention and as people say, any publicity is good publicity.

Speaking of bad boys, what ever happened to wendall making a comeback with the dragons?

    Re: Matt Henjak

I think wendal will be back around may june, and Gallop did say that he had to show that he is being successfully counciled before allowing him to play,

Wonder if by then the dragons will need the big dell

Most of the reporters love anything to make them a dollar, they would create dirt if they had none to report, and they do?

    Re: Matt Henjak

Yeh thats become pretty obvious the last few years, i stand by my argument though, too much pressure is placed on athletes to be role models.

    Re: Matt Henjak

Reading through RLWeek i found an article that neville costigan is encouraging the raiders to sign matt henjak. He says that the raiders gave him a second chance when he got sacked from the broncos for drink driving. Costigan said that if Todd Carney signs with the panthers, like is rumoured to, the raiders look set to make an offer to matt henjak. Watch this space.

    Re: Matt Henjak

I believe Ivan is actually Matts Father. Lockyer is contracted until the end of next season for the Broncos, and after that it is strongly thought he will be going to the ESL. I highly doubt the Broncos would go for someone like Matt Henjak, he has limited Rugby League experience and to be honest wasnt too crash hot at union anyway. I think the Broncos will have Karmichael Hunt move to the number 6 position once Lockyer goes, with Peter Wallace staying at 7.
