The Cup Lockyer V Bird V others

This is a subject not yet touched on. Looking towards the end of the year i have been wondering who will make the squad. Now in australia we enjoy the privalige of having a great talent pool to call upon. I have been thinking about lockyer and what he could acheive this year, but also what he might not acheive?

Lockyer needs to be 100% fit to make the cup. No good going into the cup with any injury or you will be found out. Now my opinion is yes lockyer gets the nod only if he gets through the year unscaved. If not then i think either Ingliss or the bird will get the nod. From what i have seen of the bird he looks as if ricky stuart is doing the number on him and he looks sharp. Ingliss will have to impress the judges this year to get the number 6 jersey. Thats 3 players in the mix and could be more by the end of the year. England is relying on rob burrow to leed them so we hope he stays injury free. The fullback postion is one of the most fought after in australia. Anyone got any other postions up for grabs yet.

Re: The Cup Lockyer V Bird V others

I think lockyer will get the nod if he stays fit, bird will be in the side somewhere as will inglis, providing they all stay fit. Bird did well for the roos last year in 6 and inglis is as talented as anyone i'v seen but lets face it lockyer will be 1st choice pick.

For fullback i'll go with Karmichael Hunt, Minnichello will be on his tail if fit aswell as stewart, bowen and slater.

As always forwards will be hard to pick, i would have price and civo in front with crocker and mason in the second with johnson locking the scrum, bit of QLD bias there but i genuinly think they are the best combo, if it was truely bias there would be no way mason would be there seeing as i dont have much time for mason since he's moved from my club to my least favorite club.

I guess you could say all positions are up for grabs, if smith or thurston get hurt we need a hooker and halfback, if hidges gets hurt we need a centre etc. etc. Infact i'm going to go right ahead and make a side.

    1. Hunt
    2. Falou
    3. Gasnier
    4. Hodges
    5. Inglis
    6. Lockyer
    7. Thurston
    8. Price
    9. Smith
    10. Civoniceva
    11. Mason
    12. Crocker
    13. Johnson
    14. Bird
    15. Gallen
    16. O'Meley
    17. Webb

Re: The Cup Lockyer V Bird V others

Nice work jim, but me being cautious because it is a world cup with everything on the line, i would even the amount of players between N.S.W and QLD so we dont get qld lost it for us if we do happen to get rolled. You have 12 qld players there, this would be my team without injury.

    1  Hunt= proven himself worthy.

2   Hayne=future star no dough origin fit.

    3   Folou=proved himself so far.

4    Gasnier= best centre world not being biase

5     inglis= class performer needs to be there.

    6     lockyer=worlds best

    7     thurston =obvious chice

13      ryan=proven at back never lets you down.

    11      mason= we need size.and muscle

12      simpson=tough and makes hard yards.

    8       kite=has speed and tough.

9       c.smith=lucky to have him now

    10       petro=gets early yards.

14       Gallen= good bench hard as nails

15         kafusi=ball player we need skill

16         bird= tough and backup for injuries.

    17         slater=impact off the bench.

Thats about 8 from n.s.w and can share the blame if we lose, this might change due to form maybe. have to see how the year unfolds, i have left out Hodges and Dallas but they should be there.Even the other fullbacks need to be there but someone might miss out, it is going to be nerve racking trying to pick the team, not only for the selectors but also the players, nobody wants to let the team down.

Re: The Cup Lockyer V Bird V others

I look forward to the Aussie selectors picking the World Cup team, i mean look how many players they can pick from. Lets just hope everyone comes through the NRL season injury free.

I think if Tate has a good season at the Warriors, he will be in the running for the Kangaroo's also.

I got my fingers crossed for the Kiwi's to come through injury free, for the likes of Benji, SBW they have had there fair share of injuries when it comes around for test footy, i think this will be there year tho. If all countries are able to pick there best team its gonna be the makings of a great World Cup.

Sorry to put this in on the WC site.

But just quickly here's my tips for this weekend

Rabbitohs, Titans, Eels, Knights, Manly, Panthers, Dragons, Warriors (beat storm by 6)

Yeh i spose we can all put in our teams but at the end of the day injury will affect the team and none of us are selectors so it doesn't really matter. Ah well lets just hope as you say sinbin everybody stays injury free. I only know of 2 WC injuries so far, Chris Bridge and Scott Grix who are both ireland.

Hey sinbin, i know we should not be talking about this, but i have got meself a carton for the double header friday night, and i am going the cowboys because they travel well, in other words know how to win away, they beat the broncos at home now, and the other game with souths, i hope they can get on top in the second half, this is where the game will be won, got goosebumps waiting for friday night.

I am dissapointed... there should be at least two cartons each! Ha is'nt it a worry about this world when someone is worried about writing if they have some beers or not. :(

Sorry Druzik, we should not have brought the subject up, bad luck jim, and sinbin thanks for reminding me about the footy show, i forgot all about it, hehaha.

You know what i had to witness today, i did a channell search on fox and got a bloooody 7's rugby tournament in africa i think or america, then i turned it straight over as to not pass out and got gene symonds with the KISS band touring oz, struth , then switched to another show with catherine zeta jones wingeing about her hair getting messed travelling to oz, struth mate, i shut the t/v down and said i was not turning it back on till friday, but now you reminded me about the footy show, thanks a million, will be watching ..

Re: The Cup Lockyer V Bird V others

my australian team for the world cup is:

    1.billy slater?

    2.greg inglis

    3.israle falou

    4.justin hodges

    5.jarryd hayne

    6.darren lockyer?

    7.jonathan thurston

    8.steve price

    9.camron smith

10.petro cevinociver - only cause he always makes it

    11.mark o'mely

    12. willie mason

    13.dallas johnson

but it is still very early i have put question marks on darren lockyer because of the obious. i just hope he gets 100% quick for state of origin. you may notice the backs look alot like the queensland backs that beacause queensland's backs are just so dominant atm. with the full back billy slater i dont no if his gonna keep up his form or if karmichale hunt will pick up some form. i just dont see brent sherwin as a contender. justin hodges and israel falou on the same team as a broncos and queensland supporter i cant wait
