He always said it was only for the ANZAC test and he would decide later on about the World Cup....and he turned down the head coaching job because he wants a kiwi to coach the Kiwis.....you "source" is pretty crap...

    tamatoa:
what do you mean bordering on farcical?!

    - most of the players have either previously played for nz or are current nz internationals. (i know some have now committed to samoa)

    - you have chosen reni matuia who has played for aus and has knocked samoa back before.

    - there are no samoans from the actual country of samoa in the team, every world cup squad needs at least 6 domestic players.

hopefully the samoan rugby league dont go for the quick fix by only playing aus or nz raised players. rugby league is barely played in samoa as it stands, they need to develop their domestic comp and give local guys the chance to play with nrl players. who knows, there might be (and probably is) untapped talent in the islands waiting to be discovered. allowing teams with the players you mentioned to play for samoa gives them no incentive to develop their own league. they will just keep relying on heritage players.

Well said hutch, i would like to see al 6 samoan natives in the squad play atleast 1 game each, i mean it is all well and good to give these older experienced blokes a run but in 5 years when they all retire what are samoa going to do, hopefully they can get good young samoan natives playeing aswell as some young samoans playing in NRL and SL. if vagana is halfback it will be a joke, put him in the centres and give a young bloke a go at halfback alongside sa at 5/8.

I think is is so bizarre you can play for more than one country in your career. It is ridiculous.

Now this is nice to read.

    http://www.rlwc08.com/news/news/archive/2008/04/01/suka.aspx

     I like this part

'  Should Fiji win through to the semi-finals they could well play defending champions, Australia.
That’s when Sukanaveita would realise a dream come true.
“I would get the chance to play against Darren Lockyer whose skills are so brilliant,” he said.
“I am a huge fan of Darren Lockyer from the Brisbane Broncos. He is so efficient and just plays good Rugby League.”  '

That is what its all about!
