also received this email after asking about how someone I know in the UK is to get tickets now that they've booked their hotels.....

Thank you for contacting the Rugby League World Cup.

There is, as you would be aware an enormous demand for tickets.  RLWC08
currently has exclusive ticketing arrangements with our licensed travel
partners and the November 7 onsale is therefore restricted to Australian
Residents. 

These arrangements are to ensure that those overseas fans who want to commit
to coming to Australia for the whole event will have priority access through
our travel partners and are in line with similar international sporting
events.

Our Travel Partners have secured guaranteed "A" category seating for all of
the tournament's matches and contact information for these packages can be
obtained through   http://www.rlwc08.com/tour_packages   

There will be a later ticket release closer to the tournament (likely to be
February 2008) that will allow people to buy individual tickets.  Details of
the "On-Sale" period will be available through www.rlwc08.com shortly.
Notice will also be forwarded through the site's newsletter

Only marginally better. This all should have been done at the end of last year / beginning of this year when we had the bulk of the teams qualified.

Thanks copa, I got the exact same e-mail response as the one you have copied.   

Basically it is still trying to railroad people onto the tour packages, which is all right if you just want to go where the tour company tells you you are going.   What I want is to be able to visit my family in parts of Oz where the tour parties aren't going as well as go to see matches again where the tour companies are not going.  

The fact that they are saying that some tickets may be on sale from around February 2008 doesn't aletr anything as we cannot go ahead and book flights, accommodation, etc, without knowing if we will get tickets for say the semi-finals and final.    That is too much of an expense just on a mere wing and a prayer to take.

We are talking Rugby League here not soccer or whatever where there is little if any trouble bewteen fans so why can't it be first come first served irrespective of where you live?    Or give the Australians, say, one month in which to get their tickets ordered before allowing non-residents to purchase.

So, yes, a slight improvement but still a long way off persuading myself and maybe others to take the gamble.

Feb is still well in advance...   I've never booked a family overseas holiday with that sort of long lead time before..

I would definitely suggest take the gamble - especially knowing what ARL marketing is usually like

 

The only reason they have done this is to bring in more cash $$$$$$$$$$$ from tour organisers

 

the same what they have done with state governments - hence WA not getting a match

I had no  luck emailing rfl so i wrote to them and got this in reply.

"We have limited information at present concerning ticket sales.  We have a contact in Australia who's name is Tristan Hay.  You can call him on 00 61 418 773 477 .  He is handling all world cup enquiries at present"

many RL fans here in Oz don't even know we are hosting a world cup next year.. let alone that tickets will be on sale in a few weeks.

Well, I've worked something out and an Australian resident is getting the tickets I require and I have re-imbursed him.

However, I was just thinking, isn't it a good thing that RL fans are not known for violence at matches as my tickets, and no doubt many others who have had to resort to this method, will have me seated predominantly amongst Aussie fans and not with the large contingent of Brits!!!

Still haven't heard anything from the RFL.   What a waste of space they are!!!

Keith.A word of warning from my personal experience of Aussie supporters.

Having watched Rugby League throughout England at all levels. I have never been subjected to as much nasty abuse at a Rugby League game as I was given at Lang Park in 1992 (Aus v GB Final Test). My brother had bought the tickets for me in Australia, and we were in the middle of the Aussie supporters !!.

Hi Keith, my wife and I are in a similar position as yourself. been invited to stay with a friends family in Oz and would not need all the travel arrangments offered by the official ticket agents. We were hoping to travel and see some of Oz before, during & after the world cup maybe over a 2 to 3 month period, my wife and I will keep looking on the rlwc08 website for any latest info for tickets for overseas fans, but if you hear anything, would appreciate a heads up. It's a long way off to go and book any flight and accom without knowing we are going to be able to obtain any tickets unless we're prepared to get abused by touts, again. I think the English Rugby League should be able to offer tickets to registered supporters of the UK. We're in a slighty more awkward position as we have to travel from Turkey back to the Uk before travelling onto Aus, so we want to make sure we are going to get tickets for the games we want to see and if were prepared to pay well in advance , we can't see the problem...... I am only being honest. It was very intimidating at Lang Park, a situation I would not want to be in again. Bloody frightening.

The Aussies are great outside the ground having a beer, but deep down HATE the poms.....

I went to the second test in Melbourne and there were no problems at all

I am an Aussie currently travelling in the UK and was asked to look at the best tour options for some of my new "Pommy mates" as I am also a Rugby league nutter. After looking at the tour companies and also having experienced the mess that was the Ashes cricket ticketing I think you all need to have a look at the options the tour companies are offering to get the best results for your situation. It is surely obvious to you all that the RLIF will do its best to make money or else the tournament will not be feasible and one of the options to do this will be through the international fans so they will just refer you to their "travel Partners". I must say that unlike the Australian Rugby Union for this years Rugby World Cup that the RLIF have selected a number of agents rather than monopolising it by using one company which in Australias case was "Wallaby Travel" who could charge whatever they wanted. Im not sure about travel leads and Banner as I have not received a reply from my email as yet but I have been able to contact Experience Sport through some mates at their Sydney office enad have been given the following information in regards to their packages. Experience Sport are pretty well known in Aus as they also run the travel company Rugby League Experience which takes Aussie fans to State of Origin, Grand Finals and Test Matches. I will quote it as I remember it through my mates information " We will be offering 5 escorted packages which will be a mixture of standards and tour lengths as well as unescorted packages for independant travellers wishing to stay with friends/ family etc. We cannot offer you ticket only packages as part of their licensing but will be offering packages such as 2 nights accom in whatever town the game is in coupled with Category 1 match tickets for both England and France matches, so the way I see it you could stay with your friends and then just buy a two night package and your tickets will be guaranteed. They also said that their land only packages will start at 1540 gbp but will include some Rugby league events and Excursions as well. Also as a word of warning the Australia V England match is on Sunday after the Derby Day and prior to the Melbourne Cup on the tuesday which is actually on tomorrow. i know that there are 120000 people at the races throughout the week so accommodation is double some times triple the rate and is also minimum stay of three nights at most hotels and the domestic flights are dearer as well.

I hope this helps as I really want to see the tournament go well for International Rugby League as well as the fact it will be a great party in my home town.

 

Sorry I just realised how long my last message was but jsut wanted to say to tyke that if you were intimidated by the Queenslanders at Lang Park you should try and be a New South Welshman watching an origin game up there. Dont feel to special, Queenslanders hate everyone equally.
