if this is the case, i cant see why Fiji just use Australian based players??? So that means the Australian government will turn away Australians?

What eur med cup, hhaha,,,,, has not happened yet, have to wait and see, maybe they might use just the aussie base players but then this is against the rules and defetes the purpose of a sanchon, as for the med cup druzik, they would have to look at all possibilities, i think this is going to cause mayham.
Get lots of publicity which is good for league.

Re: Lebanon in the world cup? Maybe!
I dont see why fiji couldn't play all but 6 of their squad will be australia, NZ, Engalnd and france based. It says Rudd might ban fijian teams from playing on australian soil, why? what is happening in fiji? what happens if lebanon aren't allowed in because of the trouble their country is in? a play off between Wales and USA, maybe.

Re: Lebanon in the world cup? Maybe!
This might be what i have been waiting for, lets say that fiji are banned from playing, right now what we have to do is get the other four teams below this group like usa and lebanon wales and russia, and have a four way playoff at suncorp. The 2 higher ranked playing the 2 lower then the winner playing for the game. 2 games one night and the final another night, would get a huge turnout and coverage , also promote the game back to there countries. WoW.
This is drama what league needs. Just think of the publicity you would create off the back of this. And i have said i want to see some international games.

Yeh maybe oikee, i dont think it'll happen though, lebanon will get the spot if it becomes open. Still though would be great if there was something like this, maybe Lebanon V USA in USA and Wales V Russia in either and then the final in australia at suncorp, i would be there to watch it.

Yeh i think the final at suncorp the other 2 in other countries, this way they can advertise the hell out of it and get alot of support from the home country. The final at suncorp would be good, i dont 52000 will turn up but id sAY ATLEAST 15,000 OR 20,000 would.

I thought about this over drinks last night... I suspect they are holding off because of this situation. If Lebanon do get in I think either the espoir squad will be brought in or wales will come in to fill the spot.
But I agree with the idea why the Aussie/NZ/French/UK based players cannot come into the Fiji squad and play.

Lebanon ARE the next highest ranked team... there is no point in having a play off. So Russia did not make it into the Repechage rounds. Lebanon beat wales in the repachage semi and Samoa beat USA in theirs, that counts out Wales and USA. Samoa beat Lebanon in the final so leaves Lebanon as the next highest ranked team. From what I can work out the ranks are as follows:
- Lebanon
- USA / Wales (Same level)
- Russia / Japan (Same level)
- Holland / Cook Islands (Same level)
- Serbia
- Tokelau
So Lebanon is the next best to get in, I have no issues with this. Another 3 way tournament is just saturating the RL market ATM.

Re: Lebanon in the world cup? Maybe!
this would be a disgrace if it happened. fiji are a true international team. they have a growing domestic comp, as well as some pros in the nrl and super league. they do not rely on the grandparent rule, and work hard at developing players in fiji. there will be more than 6 domestic players in their squad.
lebanon at the moment are a heritage team, and while they are working hard at developing the game in lebanon (it will take off one day), they simply do not deserve to be there. they didnt make the world cup with a bunch of players from australia, fiji made it with predominantly fijian based players. for the credibility of our cup, fiji must be there, they have worked too hard to not be there.

Re: Lebanon in the world cup? Maybe!
Lebanon do deserve to be there, they have a domestic comp going, They have their full squad that allows them to call on players that CHOOSE to play for Lebanon... the rules are there and used by all mate. Fiji, Tonga and Samoa do the same. Lebanon did have more than 6 domestic players in their squad and have the Liban Espoir squad that is developing their domestic players for the international stage. Lebanon since 2000 have worked their buts off to get to where they are, its a credit to them and the whole organisation and I suspect domestically, though not as many teams, are very advanced with championships sponsorships, Mid east development and overseas tours.
Its insulting that you are saying this. How many of the Lebanon, Fiji or other qualifiers did you go out too and see? How many of the lower tier nations have you gone out to support in the last 2-3 years, to show them that fans out there do care and encourage the local development?

Re: Lebanon in the world cup? Maybe!
I cant see it happening either dragon, we will see what happens, i am sure the government would sort something out. Not like its a super power or anything. If it was russia i would be worried?
Having said this we seem to get on with russia and could give more of there players a leg up?
