    Jack GB:
good call, i never think of the leagues clubs. probably because we dont really have them over here! What time does it open?? haha. im more than happy to put a few bits and peices on about the trip an upload fotos if poss!!

MOst are 24 hour I think, if not be like 9 am till midnight start... they are really something special Leagues clubs... something out of a twilight zone, the pokies banging on in the background, live netertainment somewhere and a massive room with a big screen TV or two showing game sof rugby league or two... simultaneously sometimes! Hhhhaaaaa I miss those times.

OH I see. Yes some are, the more extravagant ones I have been to are Sharkies, Wynnum-Manly and Brisie Easts. The old Rabbithos one was quite Kitsch too. I think you'll enjoy teh L.C.'s

Stuff the leagues clubs, I'm a pub man all the way. But each to their own.

Jack GB - the street I refer to earlier (near the b&b a few people are staying) has 5 pubs, one of which is probably our best 'Irish bar' if you are that way inclined.

Wendy - I know I'm biased, butyou should definately try and fit in a stay in Newcastle......especially over Manly!!!!! Too many people over look our great city.......the main reason I started this thread was my hopes that plenty of people would be visiting for this event.

They will mate... Newcastle is a nice city as you say a bit under-tourised. Isnt the whale watching around that time also? Something for the visitors to do, go on a day cruise and see the magnificent creatures.

I've booked room in the Leagues Club - Executive Inn - it looks first class on the website.   It's a bit dearer than a B & B at $200 for a twin room for the night, that works out at around £50 each, which isn't too bad.

Following morning catch train to Sydney and a nights stay in the Hotel Ibis, Darling Harbour.

Its what you pay at a travel;odge in the UK, so not too bad mate.

Re: Eng. Vs NZ in Newcastle

Just a word of warning, don't get too liquored up before the game. The Police and security can and do stop people from entering if they are deemed too drunk or likely to cause trouble. I have been to a few games where they even had random breath testing.

Don't try to sneak in say a whiskey coke mixer as security somehow always manages to find you, we witnessed thi at the cricket a few years ago where a group of lads brought in their own coke bottle, but had been pre mixed and so didnt buy drinks.. about 3 hours into the match, the security came along and had a sniff and threw them out (though we did score a great sombrero out of it :D ). I think it was a lack of going up to buy drinks at the bar that gave them away... anyway, just a bit of advice from my experiences, but on the whole the games are great in Oz.
