What is the format? Home and away or all meet in one place for 2-3 weeks. Sounds like a great tournament. I hope it is viable as it can only assit in sustaining and growing the game in those places.

Sweet! So basically this is the warm up for the islander nations before the WC. I rekon it will be a single game against each in one venue (one of the island nations) with a final I suppose. This will give us a good early indication which one of the Islander teams will be fighting France for the SF qualifier spot.

    Re: 5 Nations TBC

i haven't seen anything on the official websites

it would be great if it actually happened

i've never been sure about league in japan, isn't the union there propped up by multinationals and japanese corporate giants buying and so sponsoring teams and bringing in 2nd rate players from all over the world?

even the japanese squad in the union world cup last year was littered with players born in other countries

from what i've heard and read from american sources league has a real possibilty of flourishing over there

the leeds vs souths game in florida is selling well and russell crowe is on a dozen prime-time us tv shows this week plugging it

RL in Japan is small but solid... and had very frew wring ins. All basically locals. I have been in touch with the Japan coach over the last couple of years. They have a few clubs most Uni based, basically have a 9's comp running domestically and come together for XIII matches when there are tours over there or when they tour to Aus or the USA which is about every 2-3 years. This year they are comming to to Aus and playing Portugal... probably a miss match as Portugal will have PL and some NRL palyers.

The main problem he said with the Japanese team is they just don;t talk with each other on the field, everyone just tries to do their own thing. But he rekons there are some good solid skills in the team... just need time.

Yes, i agree, this is exactly what they need to do for japan and america, get them playing the island nations, hopefully the islanders will try to inject some new young up and comers into their sides so they dont give these other teams a hammering. These miny tournaments are what help the other nations the most really. I have mentioned this on may last post,, next world cup, we definately dont want to start going down the path of 5,6,7, nations, it will become a bore, get all the nations involved as quickly as possible then we can just have world cups, now i know you say that every 2 years wont work, now if the cups are played in different nations, why wont it work, i know that if oz had a world cup every 2 years, i would be there. I got me 4 tickets to the final this year within 30 seconds of them going on sale, and i will sit back now, and if " if " there is any tickets left for the coast or suncorp semi's , i'll be there.
