    Re: nz halfs

    Well depends really,

    1. if roberts has a good season and marshall stays uninjured than 6. Marshall 7. Roberts
    2. If roberts goes crap or marshall gets injured than put in chase stanley the young bloke. 6. Stanley 7. Marshall/ 6. Stanley 7. Roberts
    3. Or an alternative could be to have 6. Ropati 7.Marshall/Roberts and have stanley on the bench.

Im not fussed on leuleui or smith, maybe even paea. So in my opinion the only 4 people i would be happy to see in the NZ halfs would be Roberts, Stanley, Marshall and/or Ropati.

Let me know if i've missed anyone that should deserve a go

    Re: nz halfs

You got Ben Roberts from Bulldogs, Benji Marshall from the Tigers, Eddie Paea from Souths, Jermay Smith from Souths, Rangi Chase from the Dragons , Thomas Lealuai from Wigan and Jeremoe Ropati from the Warriors. Add to that we have that young half from the Storm who kicked us for the Jnr Kiwis this year...his name i forget!

I think we have got the best depth ever in our history

Best Half combo would be Ben Roberts at 7 and Benji Marshall at 6

i agree roberts and marshall with some help from wayne bennett as the team mentor and some time together as a team .

    Re: nz halfs

Yeh Marshall and Roberts looks like the best combo. It will be interesting to see how Roberts goes with the dogs next year, sherwin has left so it will be upto him and holdworth to run the show so i think he should improve out of sight, i think its what he needed: to be in the position of power.

Another interesting topic whilst on th kiwis, the no9? Recently they have used halatau but IMO he's only short term. NZ are low on genuine hookers but i saw some good signs this year in young isaac luke from the rabbits. I think he should get a start early, the anzac test to get him in the scene early. I think he could be the kiwis answer to their hooker troubles.

    Re: nz halfs

i'm a bulldogs supporter - i don't think ben roberts can make it at halfback he would make a better five-eight. In the NRL the NZ warriors are a strong team i would suggest the NZ national team be based on the warriors team so that they have a solid core group of players. This method was succesful for QLD  in state of origin in the past. form their team around players like Jerome Ropati and Lance hohaia ( hooker & halfback) then have roberts at five eight, i reckon benji marshall is best at fullback where he does not have to defend and can join the attack as he see's fit. Roy Assotasi & sony bill give them respect up front - add in mannering and few others from the warriors and you have a very strong core group of players.

    Marv:

Marshall's shoulkder is a huge problem for the kiwis. Marshall is a great player no doubt but he misses alot of club due to injury and has only played probably 1 or 2 games for NZ in the last 3 years! Every off season he has shoulder surgery. I think somethink needs to be done, it has been discussed that he should be moved to fullback for defense, but i dont really like the idea of hiding the bloke and besides you want to have confidence in your fullback to make tackles. Hopefully his shoulder comes good this year

    Re: nz halfs

a change in his tackling style is needed and trying not 2 smash props would be a good idea to .

    Re: nz halfs

    6. Marshall 7.Roberts/Paea. If Paea doesnt play any first grade games this year well i'd replace him with Hohia.
I reckon its a good idea for marshall to drop back to Fullback in defence. He cant tackle. He'd just about have a premature career end if he injures his shoulders again. If marshall aint avalible well Paea at halfback/five eighth for sure. They hav some good halves coming into the fold. Just need to pick the rite combination. Marshall has to be in the team tho. he hasnt made his mark on international stage yet. This upcoming WC08 will have to do. He has to show what he is to the other nations. Marshall will shine if he survives the season without injury

    Re: nz halfs

Well we had a chance to blood some players on the tour! every body knows our halfs have been a problem for years so why didnt they take Rangi Chase, Issac Luke, Eddie Paea, Liam Forlan ( I think thats his name kiwileguefan )

Heres a thought SBW at #6?

    Re: nz halfs

Yes i agree NZUD, the kiwis should have taken a few more youngsters on tour.

SBW at #6, maybe but i doubt it. I'v heard of a ball running 5/8 but i dont see it in SBW, IMO back row or nothing. he has no recognised kicking game and probably little organisations skills and those are something you want in your halves.

Good news for NZ halfs today, andrew johns has agreed to work with the bulldogs this season. This means he will be working with their backs, hookers and halfs. So that mean players like Roberts and Utai will benifit and a few kiwi youngsters, even millard, isnt he elligable for fiji?

    Re: nz halfs

He would be a scary #6. Wally Lewis mould I would say. Can he kick?

    Re: nz halfs

From what i have seen i would have

    6.Marshall

7.Roberts even though i think Roberts is a better 5/8 then a half back, i think he would organise a team better then Marshall.

Also Chase and Paea would have to come into serious contention.

Hookers-the souths hooker i have just gone blank/Roberts if paea plays half.
