    Re: Non WC games.

    OK score updates.

Liban Espoir 32 - 11 Lebanon Presidents XIII - This was a cracker. A full brawl that threatened to spill into the streets erupted between both teams right on full time! There was even an instance where players from the same team were having a go at each other! http://www.lebrl.com/

Portugal 26 - Japan 16 - injury toll on Japan forced them to get some locals in, it was raining moggies and Dashounds all night and the 30-50 brave sould that fared the weather were treated to a great game from all reports. Certainly japan keeping a team to under 50 is a great achievement for them.

South Africa Update - Rhin is a better source as he works with them more directly but - South Africa will tour the UK with two games agains BARLA. Not sure if this involves also France. The Bulls provincial side will travel to the Simone Franchini 9's tournament in Padova Italy (which I will be at BTW) to play against Germany, Italy, France B. The day before there will be the first game in the European shield tri nations with Italy taking on Germany in a full XIII test, again will be there to film this one. Also wales and Ireland are looking to send a u14 and u16's sides to SA and next year SA are looking at Hosting the Full wales side on a tour with the return tour just befor the next WC. There are negotiations under way that Scotland may do a WC warm up against the SA's on their way to Aus... but costs need to be worked out.

Like In said that is what I sort of know... Rhino will know more.

Also apparently England vs. Ireand WC warm up has been confirmed for the week after the ESL grand final.

    Re: Non WC games.

    OK everyone.

I see that on this site we cannot get any Polls up. So I have got one going on the forum at my site. Its for the European shield this year. This years comp involves Germnay, who after comming second last year are looking to take out the comp this year. They have an experinece core group that have been playing together for 4 years now. Czech's who are looking to make amends for last years drubbings by Germany and Serbia and get their inaugural win. Itlay, the dark horses. They do have an experienced bunch of locals but to date have not had many games. This tournie will provide them with at least two very good internationals.

EUROPEAN SHIELD TRI-NATIONS HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

If you don't know, the European Shield is a Tri nations played in and around central and eastern Europe. Its part of a three tier comeption series with a promotion and relegation style system. It's predecessor was the Central europen tri nations in 2006 which Germany won by defeating Estonia and Austria. Last year the Euro shield consisted of Germany, Serbia and Czech republic which Serbs won convincingly with a 30 point win over the germans and 40+ points on the Czech's. Last year the games were held in Heidelberg, (Germany v Serbia), Prague (Czech v Germany) and Belgrade (Serbia v Czech), I saw the first two and were quality matches. I have YouTube clips up with highlights. This years games are in Padova (Italy v Germany), Prague (Czech v Italy) and Frankfurt am Main (Germany v Czech). I'll be at all three onec more and will get clips up again. Also the Germany v Czech game is now an annual event no matter what group the teams will be. It's always going to be on the 1st weekend of August. So anyone who will be in german/Czech rep. area around then should look for details and head hout to see the game.

Like I said, this years competition involves Germnay, Czech Rep. and Italy and is the middle tourney in the three tier system (the top being Serbia Russia dna Lebanon, and bottom being Estonia, Ukraine and Latvia).

    Re: Non WC games.

Great to here theres a system set up to accomdate eastern europe area. I especially like the 3 tier system, it gives teams the oppurtunity to earn they're way into highers levels. Two more countries i would like to see involved are portugal and spain. Now spain, i don't know whats going on there, i know they don't have an international team and pretty sure they don't have a domestic comp. However catalans are based near the border so i'd think there'd be a tiny bit of coverage. I believe catalans (user of this sight would know more) would know more.

    Re: Non WC games.

From what I have heard, some of the universities are starting to pick up the sport in spain... small steps there. Portugal, has the Australian based team but this year is looking to take a game to portugal and get the ball rolling there... again second hand in the grape vine so take it as you please.

    Re: Non WC games.

One big result from the weekend. The South African Domestic season just came to a close with their provincial competition final on Saturday.

Northern Gauteng Bulls 24 D Mpumalanga Panthers 22

This was a last 3 minute thriller apparently. Hoping that there will be some pictures at some point.

Now the South Africans focus turns to the international calendar with the National team, REhinos touring to the UK, The Bulls touring to Itlay, and potentially Scotland doing a game or two before or after the WC.
