    Re: Four Nations

I think it is, you wont hear too much about it till after the WC, but I suspect there could be something after june mantions when England and France play in Paris. I had the pleasure of seeing France twice last year, love their style of play, very flamboyant in the backs and hard nuts up front, I mean anyone who can knock out a Kiwi has got to be tough.

They lost to GB last year, but almost got the depleated Kiwis. Just on that alone says they should be in the 4N.

    Re: Four Nations

From what I undersatnd it is, well certainly the french forums are all saying this. I am contemplating this trip as well. Looks like last years NZ test had a positive effect, its interesting cause it was in the middle of a train strike so no metro and atill nearly 6-7,000 turned out. I'd hazard a guess if there was no strike then 12,000 would have easily filled out the stadium. Though I have to say I was not a big fans of Paris, I do however want to head down for the Elite or LD final, that would be a real treat.

I read somewehere that the Paris RU club is thinking of doing a Harlequins and having a RU and RL team based in the one spot... be interesting.

    Re: Four Nations

Yeh France definatley deserve to be there IMO, there have been competitive aginst GB and NZ last year and if catalans continue to get better than they will be a real force. Was checking out some of the french catalans players in round 1 and there is definatley some talent there, one stand was tomas bosc, i've heard good things about him and he backed them up on the field, would make england, nz and maybe even australia based on his talent so a great weapon for the french.

Hopefully the England V France game does go ahead, it would be great if i got to see it live here in aus but i doubt it. Should see 10000+ pack out paris IMO. Would also be great to see England V France become a regular fixture like the current anzac test. I think most countries around the world should do something like this, say Wales V Ireland, Scotland V Italy, Germany V Czech Rep., Russia V USA. Or a tournament of three much like the eastern europe set up for this year.

    Re: Four Nations

Well I can fill you in a bit there Jim. So the England v France test I think will be a regular feature now. I am not sure what is going to happen with Aus and NZ with the canning of the ANZAC test after 2009. But Europe will have a 4 tier system of games and Chechs and germany ARE going to have a regular yearly fixture the first weekend of August no matter what, wheather it dubs in a tournie or not. Last year was in Prague, this year in Frankfurt. Italy I think you'll find will be playing someone as well, maybe the Maltese locals. But I think its more important to get regular tournaments going than just one off games. This gives teams something to aim for and develop their players.

Good to hear england V France will be a regular, i would say that the anzac test will simply be moved from mid-season to post season, this way the kiwis can get all their SL players and it will not interfere with club league. Yeh regular tournaments will also be good, i like the idea of having atlantic, euro and pacific nations tournaments and i know you do too. Split them into tiers much like they have done with the europe teams this year, get all teams involved, from england and australia to tokelu and netherlands, have each tier in 4 or 6 nations and have a relagation/promotion system. I think this would be the best idea for the situation. Then ther would be a World 6 nations with the 2 best from euro and pacifc goin through and 3rd in eruo and pacific aswell as 1st in atlantic nations given a 3 team tournament to decide the final 2. Hope that makes sense.

On the England V France game, in the future will it be France V England or GB? I hope it's england, i think GB should be scrapped from the international RL scene and be split in the respective countries.

    Re: Four Nations

I think Richard Lewis' idea is to have alternate 4N and tour again. So you get a GB tour of Aus and NZ and the a Kangaroo tour. So the GB team only gets together like every 4 years or so. Personally as much as I do like tours, I think they are outdated, we haven't had one in ages with the 3N and all. Why not just have regional champs and 6N and WC. Its enough I rekon. But it all comes down to moeny. If its not there then it wont happen.

Ok, so lewis' international schedule is basically set as the outline for the next ten years? I suppose GB 1 out of 4 years is ok, i would have rathered them not play as GB at all. Ah well can't get everything my way lol. Like you said i don't think many tours will be happening from now on, big tournaments i.e Euro nations, W6N and WC and smaller tournaments are the way of the future i'd say.Still i don't think the tour will completely die, look at cricket, they do well with tours still.
