Yes, I agree letting NZ have a 4 nations as a trial would be a good test.

    Re: Next World Cup

I think there should be a "minos" world cup played as a certain raiser to the main game.

Countries like:America,Scotland,Russia.South Africa and wales would benefit from something like this. It would also build the sport up in their countries.

    Re: Next World Cup

How about a 'minnows' 4 Nations?

I guess this would be something as follows:

Northern Hem: Tonga, PNG, Lebanon, Wales

Southern Hem: Tonga, France, Lebanon, Fiji.

Although saying that this might not fit into the plans with the propsed Pacific Cup?

    Re: Next World Cup

I agree, I think the next competition should definitely not be 2012. Either 2011 or 2013 will be better but seeing as the Union World Cup is 2011 and an extra two years will really give the players more time to improve, then 2013 probably is the best option.

But will the Rugby League International Federation listen to us?

Edit: Oh and as for the "minows" cup, isn't there one already called the Emerging Nations Tournament? Is that still happening to coincide with the World Cup 2008?

    Re: Next World Cup

I believe the next WC has been confirmed for 2013. By that time i really believe we may have 6-8 teams that can have a genuine dig at the title not just the realistic 3 we have today. Also by that time i believe countries like USA, Lebanon, South Africa, Russia etc will have improved out of sight and nearly be ready for the challenge of the WC

where did you hear that jim?

the states could push on but i think they'd have to work WITH the rugby union over there.

lebanon fell short and that was after they had given the russians a pasting!!

for me the qualifiers shoyuld involve whichever natiuons want to participate as the weaker ones will be be eliminated anyway.

make the 2013 WC a 12 team event with 3 groups of 4.  the top team and best runner up in to the semis...any thoughts??

lebaono fell short because of atrocious disipline

as for USA i was at USA v Cumbria yesterday and they got tonked 70-0 by Cumbria (a Cumbria side missing 5 SL players, comprising of semi pros)

I really feel for the USA against Samoa

    Re: Next World Cup

same here the next world cup should be held in 2013

the rugby league federation should listen beacuase it's fair so the other teams have a chance to improve so it will be a tougher compotition

    Re: Next World Cup

    hang on!!

lets wait to see how this one goes first.

im really worried about the lack of players actually born in the countries they're representing.

maybe the next WC could be an 8 team competition and then in 2016 we could have a larger tournament with Scottish/Irish/Welsh/Lebanese/USA teams made up of largely players born in those countries.

I believe i read it on wikipedia so it may just be sh*t, i dont know.

you say lebanon fell short after giving the russians a pasting, well they lost to a team that had also just given russia a pasting.

I agree on the Qualifiers, let countries put in bids for qualifying rights and if they do let them go for it, have the top 4 of the year auto qualifyers and have the rest fight it out in seeeded pools for example.

    Auto Qualifyers

    Australia
    England
    New Zealand
    France

Then say we have 30 other teams bid for qualifying. the next best 8 teams according to world rankings are put into qualifying pools Vs other nations. For this example say tonga are 5th, PNG 6th, Wales 7th and so on. and USA 13th, Russia 14th...

    Pool A
    Tonga
    USA
    ...

    Pool B
    PNG
    Russia
    ...

    Pool C
    Wales
    Gerogia
    ...

    Pool D
    Ireland
    South Africa
    ...

    Pool E
    Fiji
    Cook Islands
    ...

    Pool F
    Scotland
    Japan
    ...

    Pool G
    Samoa
    Netherlands
    ...

    Pool H
    Lebanon
    Serbia
    ...

I think you get the point, we could have upto 4 or 5 per pool depending on who bids for qualification. This shoukld ensure we have the next best 8. Also gives weaker nations a shot at it.

    Re: Next World Cup

Jim a nice idea in theory but will not work for one simple reason, teams do not have the money to travel all over the place like that. The qualifiers need to be done over a two year period with the games spaces out such that its not too hard on teams and it allows them to recover financially form any travel they do. These qulaifiers should be regional with incentives to qualify for their respective regional championships as well as the world cup... I am actually writing up a thesis of sorts on this that once done I will have up on my website... stay tuned. It even allows for TOURS the people so desperately want!

    Re: Next World Cup

Before we start talking about all these places playing each other at international rugby league I think we first need to get the leagues in places like Wales, USA, Scotland, Ireland etc. running consistently and successfully.

This will allow for a greater pool of players to choose from and maybe, just maybe a few stars that could be snapped up by watching SL and NRL clubs.

Countries at the lower end of the rankings e.g. Japan and the Netherlands (please correct me if I'm wrong there druzik) should have to qualify to play the teams at the middle of the rankings e.g. Samoa, Fiji, Lebanon (again druzik).

At the end you'd have 3 or 4 teams that would go to the finals with Australia, England, New Zealand France and PNG or whoever the 5th ranked team is.

This means that no country has to play another that is likely to give it a right royal pasting (never good for confidence).

    Any thoughts?

    Re: Next World Cup

The only corrections I can give... well none really. Those countries would be at the lower end of the rankings for their regions... internationally well its a bit hard to say since the RLIF ranking have not changes in about 2 years.

    But got to http://www.rugbyleagueinternationalscores.com/about.html

there I have done a semi-detailed outline of my idea for the next 10 years. But I have a structured 4 year cycle of 6 tournaments that pit teams asgainst each other regionally and at their level, so not too much expensive travel. With financial benefits to help them when they move through the stages. I feel its a realistic goal, but as I also comment on there I am open to constructive critisism and superior ideas.
