    Re: Next World Cup

Well, there we go. As a spectator I thought the 2002 FIFA World Cup was the best world cups I have seen. I have done a bit of research and yes you are correct that that FIFA wishes not to hold another co-hosted FIFA event. The ICC, though, has still went ahead with having a multi-hosted Cricket World Cup which is where I draw the line, that is having 3 or more countries hosting the world cup.

    Re: Next World Cup

These things always loog good on the tele, but there are always some sort of underlying problem, its always the case when you have large events like this and the RLWC will be no different.

But its how we make the best of it and learn form others mistakes that counts.

    spud:

i'm dead set against co-hosting...i'd rather we held it on a rotational basis..

    2008 AUSTRALIA

    2013 GB

    2017 NZ

    2021 FRANCE

    2025

    2029

    2033

this is my preference. then at least if we have to return to aus for 2025 it will have been at 17 year gap between events, therefore remaining an 'exclusive' event. im not a fan of co hosting but if france or nz are unable to sell all their games i wouldnt mind england or australia getting a couple of games, as long as the final remains in the host country.

    Re: Next World Cup

Also by 2025 we'll have some more countries comming up that should have a decent enough profile to host a world cup, maybe the USA, Russia or Serbia.

    Re: Next World Cup

2013 has definately got to be the next date. It would be successful in the UK dependant on the success of the 08 World Cup getting into the UK public eye. Should 08 event be on terrestrial TV and have lots of positive coverage, with England reaching the final, then potentially England 2013 could be a money spinner for the RLIF. If however the impact of 08 is small and changes very little in terms of awareness of British RL, then England 2013 would make a minimal profit.

What is certain is that if the 2013 event were to be held in England, and the impact of the 08 World Cup in England could be comparable to the effect of the 03 Rugby Union World Cup, then the RLIF must strike while the iron is hot and announce in 2009 that it will be held in England 2013, this would provide mementum to the tournament in British Sporting eyes and would make it an anticipated event over years rather than months.

    VERY GOOD POINT!

Wasn't the 2000 World Cup a financial punch in the guts for England?

    Re: Next World Cup

    not just england....

sure it very nearly bankrupted the RFL but all international development was halted because nobody had any cash to fund it....

Yes, they made a loss on it and everyone suffered. The difference now is that the RFL is far better managed and they pick arenas that will sell out rather than having half empty stadiums. If England reach the finals of this World Cup then maybe International RL will become an event in the UK rather than a none event.

    Re: Next World Cup

If you're wrong and the World Cup is a huge failure then maybe in the future they will tone it down in a way by making it less of an event.

    Re: Next World Cup

Its tonned down already from the last one. I think ATM the format is a good one. I am warming to thi super grou idea. You look at the VRU scores at the moment and the average scores are (W) 50-11 (L).

    Re: Next World Cup

THat's an excellent point. Though, I would've enjoyed seeing the major countries play some countries they don't usually play against.

    Re: Next World Cup

Yeah, but thats where having meaningful tournaments outside of the RLWC come into play. That way you can build up the teams with experience, expand the RLWC to 12 or 16 teams (no more) and have them playing the 4 top tier teams, I mean by that stage it would be that maybe some other country like Tonga and PNG will really be up there... well according to the 'rankings' Tonga already are with #4

    Re: Next World Cup

As long as this World Cup makes money and is a success then what we need is the right people in the right positions to take us forward. If that's the people there now then so be it if not we need to look for the John O'neill types who will take Rugby League from a job for the boys club to the professional world where the game is marketed as it should be. A game that can match any in the world. It all starts at the top. There is nothing wrong with our game that the right management can't fix.

    Re: Next World Cup

Yeah very true. I have often wondered why some one from the "Fans" who has the marketing experience etc... cant do the Job?
