    Next World Cup

Are we really gonna get another World Cup in 2012 or are we gonna wait another 10 years for the next one?

    Re: Next World Cup

I'd love one every four years like all the other sports

    Re: Next World Cup

the next world cup should be in 2013 too avoid other major sporting event cycles and then every 4 years after that...

in 2013 all we'll be up against is a world athletics championship...we can deal with that

but in 2012 we's be up against the olympics & euro football championships & in 2014 we'd be against the FIFA world cup and commonwealth games.....

avoiding major sporting events will increase our chances of gaining major sponsorship money & tv revenue..

    Re: Next World Cup

2013 definitely sounds like the best option. Also gives developing countries an extra year to improve.

and I'm assuming it will head back to Europe. I'm thinking Great Britain and France can co-host

    Re: Next World Cup

i'm dead set against co-hosting...i'd rather we held it on a rotational basis..

    2008 AUSTRALIA

    2013 GB

    2017 NZ

    2021 FRANCE

    2025

    Re: Next World Cup

    What's wrong with co-hosting?
  •  29-08-2007, 6:10 PM 136712 in reply to 136477

    Re: Next World Cup

co-hosting such a small event (19 games) is counter productive to the event gaining momentum & hype because the

games are spread here there and everywhere and it also add to the cost of hosting meaning less profit and international rugby

league needs all the profits we can lay our hands on at the moment.....

plus no event has been succesfully co-hosted, after the co-hosted 2002 FIFA world cup fifa announced it would prefer never

    to co-host the event again....

and please don't bring up the rugby union world cup...france effectively sold off games to wales, scotland in return for their vote to host it

in the first place..this has happened at a few RU world cups in the past..

if you want to co-host it we might has well go back to how when played the world cup in the 80's & early 90's which were pretty much non

    events till the final..

    Re: Next World Cup

You might be right, it's just I think the World Cup can be used as an excellent tool in developing the game in other nations.

    Re: Next World Cup

Yes it is, but you need to learn to walk before you run.

The next few should be in one of the four major countries so that basically revenues can be built up, in that the revenues can be used to help the developing nation, so that by 2025 you can have another country like Russia or USA or someone else do it where the sport has a profile finally and can also generate money.

and co-hosting is NOT a good idea.

    Re: Next World Cup

Ok, my preference is to not have co-hosting but I don't think it would be terribly bad either. South Korea and Japan in the Soccer World Cup in 03 was great as well as South Africa and Zimbabwe in the cricket world cup.

    Re: Next World Cup

Japan south Korea, was a diaster for FIFA in terms of getting players around venues and people planning trips, I may be wrong but I remember reading that they lost money on it and there were issues between the two countries who should get prefernvces etc... It all looked niice on the tele but behind the scenes it was apparently a shambles. FIFA have said since thet they want to avoid co hostiong WC's as much as possble, I think the 2012 Ero champs will be the last co hosted comps for FIFA.

The cricket WC also had its issues with games in kenya as well, teams fans were grumbling about it. You have to remember VISA issues for fans as well as players as well when you have co-hosts.
