Well I think your opinion is utter crap.

Whilst you are emphasizing every mistake of the kiwi's you are forgetting everything the kangaroos got away with. Not to mention the head highs and the raking the ball on a number of occasions. You need to just accept the fact that they were beaten. and they deserved it.

The kangaroos surely deserved what they got, especially seeing how overconfident they were.

It was also a disgrace to see that Joel Monaghan had taken out Lance Hohaia knowing that he never had the ball. That just goes to show the dirty tactics of the australian team. Maybe that's what's kept them the cup all this time.

It also doesn't help that the ref was an australian. before he resided to the uk.

Re: My opinion on NZ 'victory'

The penalty try could have gone either way.  I've seen better cases for penalty tries turned down.  There was doubt over who would reach the ball first, therefore meaning the Kiwi fullback wasn't a certainty to score.  Still, I'm happy for the decision, but only if the referees remain constant.  What angers me is how they'll give a decision one day and turn it down the next.

New Zealand's second try shouldn't have been awarded.  Benji Marshall lost the ball due to poor ball control.  An Australian hand may have been on the ball, but it didn't look to be the reason Benji lost it.

The penalty New Zealand received for being carried over their own was a joke.  A similar instance happened when England legally carried a New Zealander into the in-goal. To make matters worse, the referee never penalised the Kiwis for taking Williams into touch.  I thought the Williams incident was more deserving of a penalty.

In conclusion, I think New Zealand deserved to win, but I also believethe referee and his assistants made a few dud calls.

Re: My opinion on NZ 'victory'

    Hey there,

I cn feel you pain, mate... I was there last night and watched the match, and there were some dodgy calls... BUT

The kiwis played out of their skin in the second half, and really, Australia should have had the talent to overcome this. To my eyes it looks like they were panicing for the whole second half.

When it comes down to it, the Aussies hadn't been under pressure for the whole tournament, and when the heat was on, they didn't know what to do.

So rather than looking for some far reaching conspiracy at the highest level of the game, you should probably look to the aussie's perforance... I'm sure that's what they'll be doing - or at least they should be, if they don't want to repeat this result a lot more over the next few years.

Sad but true... now roll on 2009 and the Anzac test!!!!!

Re: My opinion on NZ 'victory'

The Kiwis played outstanding last night, the game was clearly rigged but none the lss the kiwis came ready to play, The australian forwards were hopeless, and made it hard for the backline to do anything. Watmough was probably the best of the forwards on the night for australia. But all you NZ supporters need to understand Darren is clearly the worlds best and he showed it with the way he was just everywhere last night, deserved the man of the match win or loss.

NZ played outstanding yes, they were given so much oportunity and they took it and played well with it. The fact the video ref, one of the touchies and the ref were all from england was sad knowing full well england wouldnt want australia winning after australia trashed them.

Congrats NZ, you will have to win every world cup from now on if you want to be the best in the world. And I hope you can back up last nights win when it comes to the trans tasmin test next year.

Oh and if you think aussies are looking for excuses by blaming the refs, just think you would be doing the exact same thing if australia had won, everyone does it when their team loses, just last night the ref was 100% against australia no denying it, if you think otherwise then try watching the game. It was like watching state of origin, the same *** reffing QLD cops all the time.

Re: My opinion on NZ 'victory'

I find it funny how people win a game unfairly and they know it, but they try to say otherwise. its abit like listening to rabbit warren and guss sayin a ball isnt passed forward when the whole world is watching a clearly forward pass.

Mate all we can say is NZ won the world cup, now they have t winn them all to prove that it wasnt rigged. we know that wont happen, australia is still the best rugby league nation in the world.

    and who did aus have?

ohhh how bowt they had the whole of queensland with the exception of dalas johnson and crocker and scatterd nsw joel, stewart, wolfman, kite and gallen

not being so greedy and giving tonga anthony toupo,

Re: My opinion on NZ 'victory'

BAHAHAHAHAHAH joey n fitler....as the 6 n 7? that would be sad, cos Darren and Thurston would drill them, or even Lewis and Langer would drill them. Fitler was a good player so was joey, but never as good as darren, cant have a best team in the world without him. No matter how much you might hate him everyone knows deep down he is pure brilliance

Re: My opinion on NZ 'victory'

hahaha what about all the mistakes the aussies made but the ref let go?? the fact is, we made the aussies get flustered, they made alot of mistakes and we capitalised on those mistakes. we won fair and square. that penalty try could have gone either way, and we still would have won without it. we played really well, but the aussie media are more interested in blaming the loss on either the ref or billy slater. i think its reallly sad that stuart is trying to take the glory away from our win by saying that it was a set up. surely an australian coach should be more gracious in defeat then that?

Re: My opinion on NZ 'victory'

All i can say is that when the poms blamed the referee they were called whinging poms

so what does that make you

if you want to look at rigged how does a player from the losing team who was out played alnight get man of the match.

and as for the penalty try monaghan was damn lcky to not get 10 for a profesional foul as well

Re: My opinion on NZ 'victory'

    OR708:

However all of this put together was only tantamount to my disbelief at what occurred during the judgement of what was deemed to be a penalty try. Back in September a penalty try was awarded to the Roosters Minichello when he was obstructed going for a putdown by Hohaia. This decision was ridiculed by the commentary team because there was no certainty that Minichello would have scored the try. So imagine my disbelief when that same panel of commentators start petitioning for a penalty try to be awarded last night, when it was not even probable that Hohaia would have scored. To say that there was no reasonable doubt that Hohaia would have scored that try, when Billy Slater was in fact closer to the ball, is to summarise that situation with a large amount of unquestionable bias. One only had to listen to the commentators, those with a vested interest in the success of the code, contradicting themselves from only two months earlier to see which team had to win the match.

I feel it is pertinent to clarify the Penalty Try rule for you ... In both rugby league and in rugby union, if the referee believes that a try has been prevented by the defending team's misconduct, he may award the attacking team a penalty try. Penalty tries are always awarded under the posts regardless of where the offence took place. In rugby union, the standard applied by the referee is that a try "probably" would have been scored. The referee does not have to be certain a try would have been scored. In rugby league, the referee "may award a penalty try if, in his opinion, a try would have been scored but for the unfair play of the defending team."

It is important to remember that the " Obstrution " in this case was an illegal head high tackle quite different to the Hohia vs Minichello incident.
