totally agree with you bro, thats why the players are making a stand. Roy Asotasi threatened to walk and take everyone, and now that bennet has stepped down it looks all set to go off. how im not sure but the way I see it let the player represent the country they want to play for! theres a big money incentive for players to go play tri nations but this being world cup year its not about that, should be interesting to watch. either way I think the island nations will be well represented.

Yeh the eligibility rules have been broken alot over the last couple of years and nothing has been done, its time RLIF stepped up and stopped it. I mean sure NZRL, ARL are able to pull more weight than any island nation, but they shouldn't be allowed to get whoever they want if its a breach of the rules. What has happened over the last few years makes a laughing stock out of internationl league and that it definatley something we dont want or need. A strong international game is very important IMO, if you can get 5+ teams capable of winning a WC then you are doing well. League is developing nicely around the world in places like tonga, samoa, USA, Russia, UK and even coming along well in countries like germany, italy and south africa.
I havn't heard anything about bennet quiting, where did hear see that?
Also i like your idea, let players play where they want to play, still though they have to obey the rules when they do. If a player wants to play tonga for a qualifying game well then he has made his commitment and should not be allowed to switch back to NZ in a clear breach of the rules. Sure if you wait it out the 2 years or until after a WC then well you can do it under the current rules. The Farah incident was a bit of a joke, there was a big uproar because he couldn't play for lebanon, but he was stated that he wanted to play for australia next year anyway. RLIF enforced the rules on this however, and hopefully they do it more.

tamatoa:
the withdrawl of Bennet after the Anzac test hasnt helped NZ's cause in trying to keep a steady ship. Nigel Vagana and co are on a mission to round up the best of the best and looking at the options its looking real good.
1. Krisnan Inu
2. Matt Utai
3. Steve Matai
4. Iosia Soliola
5. David Vaealiki
6. Reni Maitua
7. Nigel Vagana
8. Jeff Lima
9. Motu Tony
10. David Solomona
11. Tony Puletua
12. Ali Lauititi
13. Sonny Bill Williams
Frank Pritchard, Jeremy Smith, Hutch Maiava, Malo Solomona, Henry Fa'afili, Francis Meli the list goes on, who do you leave out, watch out world!!
Man you talk some ***!! First how many of those players were born in Samoa? I count two!! Second half of them cant play as the NZRL will not allow them to swap countries...the only reason why it worked last year was because of Tonga RL gave them their blessing. I hate these people who make up a wish list then go around saying it is from a very good source...Go develop some players from your own country.

Bennet hasn't quit yet, i suspect you just read the article in the mole in RLW tamatoa, he is rumoured to be unhappy but nothing offiecial. I will believe it when it happens but until then wayne bennet is a part of the kiwi coaching staff.
In reply to you KLF, like i said i find this 'dream team' hard to believe, like i have said NZ will make RLIF enforce the rules to keep their gun players even if they wanted to go to samoa, which is unproven. Also there has to be 6 players in the 24/25 man squad for the WC so only 18 non samoa based players will be able to make the squad. Besides i would rather see young stars like Sa, Setu etc. running around for samoa then players nearing the end of their careers. If Vagana plays at halfback well it will be a joke, put him in the centres and give a samoan native or young australian based samoan a go at halfback.

well it would be fairwell NZ for the tri-nations and hello Toa Tonga.
But seriously how does eligibility work ?? If not all these guys certainly close have played for NZ. It’s make it a farce if you can pick and choice who you play for depending on what you are offered or who your mates are playing for.
Tonie Carroll all over …

I dont comment on this topic much because i have not got a clue how they work this system out, seems a shame the rules are not laid in stone. You see one guy born in tonga playing n.r.l and then playing for zealand, then he wants to play for tonga, i think once they have more internationals this might help sort this mess out? And to top this off when he goes to super league for a few years he wants to play for england??

its funny how the rules are different for every nation, its seems you can chop and change from the smaller teams into the bigger nations ie the kiwis and australia but yet when you want ot play for the island nations theres a stand down period?! which neith effected fuifui moimoi, tuiaki, jeff lima and jeremy smith who only a year before where palying for their respected islands helping them qualify for the world cup. question regarding sources? staight from the players, the only thing holding the players back from playing for the islands it the fact the tri nations only accomadates the kiws,gb and australia, given the world cup the players know it great opportunity to play for their nations. you'll find that if you ask a tongan or samoan what nationality they are they'll tell you as it is, not kiwi?

look at what Paleasina, Fa'alogo and Lauititit said '' my mum is samoan, my dad is samoan, therfore we feel we have evry right to play for samoa.' enough said!!!!!

Tamatoa, look i dont know how the island group work, but would it be alright to call the islands group just that.
I mean instead of being called new zealand in the tests, tri nations, could we call them the islanders. Is this a sore point or not?
And then when it comes to a world cup then any players can make there island the one they want to play for, this must have already been discussed by the R.L.I.F ?

jim_57:. the Farrah incident, where he was alowed to play for lebanon only then to be told that if he did he couldn't play WC for australia, once again australia pulling it's weight.
which wasnt a bad thing. if he been allowed to play for lebanon without it affecting his aussie rep ambitions it would be a joke. his aim is to play for australia, he just wants to help a couple of mates out playing for lebanon. that is not what international rugby league is about.

then dont play for new zealand. it should be one country for life, no exceptions. perhaps when the rlif start scheduling more games each year for countries such as samoa, tonga etc, we will get more guys committing for life.
the team you mentioned at the start of this thread is not a national squad or even an international team, it is just a bunch of heritage players, and should have no place in the world cup. we need countries such as samoa to start developing their own players.im not saying dont use aussie or kiwi raised samoans, but it is imoprtant that they dont stack the team full of players using the gp rule. we need kids in the actual country of samoa to start playing rugby league, this is way more important than samoan kids from western sydney or auckland.

no offence mate, but are you taking the p*ss? new zealand is new zealand, it is a multi cultural country and a lot of polynesians live there. if they choose to play for nz, they play for nz!

Sore point i think, this is why i dont comment, i have no idea how the islands and new zealand work, same as new zealanders who live in oz, if they call oz home they play for oz,
alright, this subject will always have issues then.

Re: Sonny Bill, Steve Matai, David Fa'alogo and co set to turn their backs on the kiwis and rep Toa Samoa at the Cup 08''
tamatoa:fuifui moimoi and tuiaki played for tonga only ten months prior to there selection for the kiwis in the qualifyers??
Mate you are about 6 months too late to get in on this. we have had near riots on this forum about this. This is absolute bull$hit if any current NZ international gets selescted for another country. If this does happen I will stop supporting the PI teams in protest. Yes Moi Moi played for tonga and he should have stayed like that. The double standard applied is appaling. However Moi Moi now should stay with NZ. I voiced my views to the NZRL board and players in Paris last year. The facts that the RLIF considers worthy matxhes only between the top 3 is nonsense. No wonder RL has such a bad reputation. I said it before and will say it again... NZ troubles are not becasue of Kemble etc... its that they always select the PI players who DO NOT give a flying rats a$$ about the team. I saw this in Paris and last years disaster was due to them and not any coach. And the more the NZ people stick in their heads in the ground and ignore this fact the worse NZRL and the kiwis will get. If this turning backs things happenes, the RLIF need to show some spine and bann these players from representing nay country for 2-3 years. If they can show grit against Farrah then they can show it against the PI's.
