    Re: Challenge Cup

    Whhhhaaaaat?????

Have some Aussie's never heard of the Challenge Cup. As they say it's the "crown jewel" of Rugby League. Sure Super League doesn't get much coverage from London but the Challenge Cup certainly does. I tend to get into it when the BBC put 2 or 3 matches on television and when the SL clubs get involved but it's great too see the Russian teams and the French teams and the armed forces in the earlier stages. BARLA teams also put in a good performance despite them being out of season. But yeh, the matches are televised worldwide and it's a great day out if one of the smaller teams draw a Super League club (Castleford at home has got to be any National League managers dream!). The other good thing is that you really don't know who is going to win the Challenge Cup because teams really do put everything they've got into it. In the past few years the Giants, Dragons, Sheffield Eagles and London Broncos have all been in the final and as Druzik said, a few years ago Toulouse where in the Semi-Finals. Also as Druzik said, it's bigger than State Of Origin - 90,000 sell out, first sport on the box, main article on the back pages. I'm from East Anglia but even my football-loving mates talk RL after the CC Final.

    Re: Challenge Cup

We are kept in the dark down under in oz, the only time we know its on is the final on t/v   ,,, last year they showed the dragons v saints and i was wondering why a middle of the year game could attrack such a crowd. Anyway moving on now we had a simalar type of concept as druzik knows the panasonic cup, but that went by the wayside, now it origin, but having said this its our best watched and attended series by far.

Well really it is australias number 1 sporting event, which is a real bonus for league, this and the challenge cup keeps the game healthy.

They have something special planned for origin this year so should be a cracker, 2 games in sydney and one in brisbane, now if i think what might happen is we could get the 3 games sold out, that would top off the year nicely, the world cup will be a sell out for sure. We are getting 50k crowds just to the local derbies here in queensland so every thing looks good for a league year. Swing low sweet chariot.

    Re: Challenge Cup

Some great results for French Rugby League in the Challenge Cup!

    • Lezignan XIII 37-22 Sheffield
    • SM PIA XIII 26 - 24 Gateshead Thunder
    • Toulouse XIII 17 - 14 Keighley Cougars

This means that there will be four French teams in the next round of the Challenge Cup!

Unfortunately the Russian team went down to the crusaders.

    • Celtic Crusaders 52 - Lokomotive Moscow 10

    Re: Challenge Cup

Yeh great results for the french, would be great for FE1 if PIA, Lezigan or Toulouse can knock off a SL side.

Dissapointing for Loko, although i didnt really expect them to win, lets hope for the sake of RL in wales the CC can go a long way.

    Re: Challenge Cup

But there was a club team in the 80's that got them no? Obviously not 82 or 86, Maybe it was 78 or 1990.

    Still 22-16 not too shabby.
