lol this is getting really funny from the sidelines, when i was arguing with dogged he was just pissing me off but now I've stepped back and justed watched it's really funny how stupid some of his comments are getting. Seriously anyone with half a brain would have given up long ago dooged, especially when you are getting proved wrong over and over.

BTW onto real "EXPANSION" Swamp you are the first WA baseed poster i have seen on here, you heading to the Reds first game in Perth this saturday.

Another thing that he seems to know nothing about is the AFL's failed attempt to spread their boring, inane sport to England.  The AFL has been hosting exhibition games in London for many years.  The majority of thespectactors at the matches are Australian immigrants who live in London!  That right there proves that the AFL's attempt to expand into foreign markets isn't that good.

As I stated earlier, Australian Rules Football was the most popular sport in Papua New Guinea.  Rugby League Football became the country's most popular sport during the 1980's.  It is considered the national sport of Papua New Guinea, too.  Therefore, if the AFL is so great, then how come the people of Papua New Guinea prefer to watch the NRL?

    Re: Expansion

Jack GB  ,,,, so are they still trying to get a.f.l started in england or have they given up,? And i wonder how long there african adventure will last,

Thats there problem, the only people who show up are expats, if you look at the rugby league match over in jacksonville, it had alot of the locals turn up and they wanted more of the same,  our expansion is going on throughout the world at a nice rate, thanks to the postings and updates of druzik and others,  We are expanding the game to countries that can play rugby league and enjoy the game.

I had mentioned on a very early post that league is a virus, bacteria if you like, slowly spreading around the world and nobody realises until its to late.

I am very happy with league at the moment, but i do take into my thoughts what my dad keeps telling me, we need less teams to make the comp stronger, now i dont agree with him because the players need to find a team, and as i tell him someone has to be the loser, at the moment its the bunnies, next year it might be the storm, who knows.

Those aussie rules expats are a virus also, a bad virus.

soccer to overtake RL in TV rights??,...and to move into SECOND spot behind AFL?...personally I don't think this will happen even though I think soccer will increase its deal it won't catch AFL or NRL...but you will note that AFL is identified as number one broadcasting deal which is very odd isn't it?...after all according to morons on this forum it is less popular than the great TV game that is RL....AFL less popular and less viewers yet getting more money...go figure!?

mate send all your research, and 'england 3 lions'conpsiracy theory, along to the NRL headquarters and explain it all to David Gallop....after all surely your argument with is him not me....let him explain to you why RL gets paid far less for its game and why according to you he's sold the game short...

the next deal negotiated will again put NRL way behind - and probably further behind than it already is....I've linked you an article that says it will drop below soccer's deal but i doubt this will happen....soccer will probably make gains and AFL will probably pull further ahead due to getting a couple of extra teams and expanding its reach into western sydney and gold coast whereas the NRL will have done no expansion by then...Gallop himself says so in a previous link I've sent that confirms expansion is not on the agenda in the short term for the NRL so its will fall further behind the AFL deal you would think..

    Re: Expansion

Dogged Mate,  you just dont seem to get it!!! Look the T/V deals are only speculation and i can give you a better idea of what you are in for, because i too can speculate and come up with a better idea than someone's wishful thinking.

Point 1 ,  Take A.F.L expansion into queensland and sydney, all you are going to acheive out of this is whipping boys for other teams, they will not be contests good enough for public veiwing because the new teams will be so weak it will just be a matter of turning up to get the points, hence nobody will give a dam about these games, so your veiwers will get worse.

Point 2 ,  Soccer is only simmising that there deal will be enormous because they will be watched in every state and will get untold veiwers because of the world cup issue, not true again because the aussie public dont rate soccer as their favarite sport and we will soon become bored with the antics and boring 90 minute contest of no goals. Not only this we also have better things to do in our summer. Cricket being one of them.

Point 3 , Rugby league has got plenty of growth ahead of it and given this outlook, weather or not we have teams in aderlaide or perth, there is so much more growth here and also england where, i might add, the T/V veiwers are starting to flock into the super league telecasts now they are getting more coverage. League has got the number one sporting event on the calender called origin, and over the 3 games rates higher than any other sporting event.

This has taken league 25 years to get to this stage and even if your a.f.l has a origin, it wont come close to being a event like league origin. It will always be looked down apon as a try hard wannebee.

I am sure David Gallop is happy to have the T/V deals where they are because we are in a situation where we cant lose money next deal. I would not hold my breath for your A.F.L t/v rights because you might get a real shock, and if you go backwoods you are on the back foot,,,, being beating not only by league, but also soccer.

Finally, if you take a look at the veiwing figures for last monday nights game between the bottom of the table souths, and the top 4 prospect cronulla, this was a very close match with lots of passion and plenty to play for, i did not turn off until the hooter sounded and all N.R.L games are like this every week, this is why we love league and there is more and more people tuning in every week, so take a team from say perth, even if its not our team wont stop us from watching because the league is so close , year in year out.

You are going to weaken your a.f.l teams into a situation where you will lose veiwers bored to sleep with one sided affairs. This was also the case for league around the super league era, alot of games were weak and we lost veiwers, but we have strenthened our overall comp so the bottom team one year, as in newcastle, can become a real force the next.! This is where lies your weakness in aussie rules and your dumbarse boss is ignoring this to have more teams.

Gallop is to clever to be pushed into expansion to quickly because league has been caught out before, and we are bringing more talent into the pool before expansion becomes a issue.

    Re: Expansion

Unfortunately Jim_57 I am based in the SW, about 250km from Perth & just having my third child a month ago, I don't think my wife would see that as a high priority at the moment. I did play & coach in the WARL in the early 90's so I have been watching the Reds progress closely. Over the years there have been some fantastic local talent coming out of Perth. Hopefully the Reds will continue to be competitive & draw good support.

    Re: Expansion

tV deals speculation?...maybe future deals are guessing but not the deals that have been already been done,.,..the $780 - 5 yr deal (AFL) and the $500m - 6 year deal (NRL)...even on the most optimistic analysis and adjustment by the likes of Roy Masters puts the RL deal 30% behind the AFL deal...this is not specualtion...this is fact....OK there is specualtion as to soccer deal to come which I said i don't agree with..... so i'm on your side on this one - I don't think soccer will overtake NRL - not yet anyway - in the very long term it could...

oikke i've had this conversation before the last broadcasting rights deal and RL heads like you predicted the NRL woudl get a superior deal...and look what happened...and it'll happen again....and again...

State of Origin?...oikee i bet you don't even realise that this idea was one RL copied from aussie rules ...i attended the first SOO match which was Vic v WA at Subiaco in 1979....packed house (45,000) and the stadium was buzzing....the RL boys saw it and thought they'd give it a crack and gave it a go in 1980 - and it also worked well in RL....it has eventually faded in aussie rules due to the national competition with WA and SA sides playing victorian teams most weekends...it hasn't faded in RL so good for you....but don't kid yourself - it's not even as big an event as the NRL GF which in turn is nowhere as big as the AFL GF...

    dogged,

I am beginning to believe that you're insane.  Either that, or you're inability to comprehend the facts that have been laid before your eyes is proof that you're a hysterical, biased fan.

The information I gave you isn't a conspiracy theory of mine.  It is validated by the fact that Kery Stokes sued Kerry Packer, Foxtel and the Network Ten for the reason that I gave you.  The court case went on for years before it was finally dropped.  I could be wrong, but I think the court case was dropped by Stokes when he realised that he needed to set up a consortium with Network Ten.  It was the only way he could regain the television broadcast rights of the AFL

    dogged:

    Speculative drivel!

Fair enough mate, will you be getting out to a few during the year?

Are you still involved with the WARL? any players to look out for over there in WA?

    Re: Expansion

But Dogged, it is a superior deal, as i have mentioned it is for only 2 states, please read my reply's you dumbarse, i am sick of you repeating yourself.

Your deal is for 5 states so it is pathetic really. And can only get worse after time. Look to be honest dogged, nobody gives a rats *** what you say on this site, we are all league supporters and you wont change us, go to the netball forum because this will be your future competition. League and soccer are growing sports, we are talking about league expansion on here, not A.F.L.

We have a world cup coming up and are not worried about a one-eyed aussie rule supporter.

The world cup will grow more fans, you have to worry about your boss buying more, and he needs lots more pokie money for that.

Nobody mentions the brisbane lions here in queensland, as far as people know the lions are england rugby league.

    Re: Expansion

To be honest i didn't read the detail of what you wrote - i just assumed it was nonsense..but haivng just checked briefly it is exactly what I thought - a non sequiter...even if everything you say is correct it simply doesn't explain why the current AFL deal is far in excess of the current NRL deal... the deal you're talking about, and the one that was litigated, is the deal prior to the current deal won by 7/10....you have explained nothing at all...not a thing

"..the disparity between the deals is derived from Kerry Packer's desire to hoard the AFL television broadcasting rights.  Packer poached the AFL television broadcast rights away from Kerry Stokes' Channel 7 because he knew it would kill off Stokes' C7 Sport Pay TV service.  The reason Packer wanted to kill off C7 Sport was because it was the main competitor to Foxtel's Fox Sports.  In case you don't know, Packer owned a share of Foxtel."

you simply state a proposition that the current higher AFL deal is due to Packers desire to ruin C7 then sprout off some other irerelevant info that for all we know is true...so what?!...what does the ruining of C7 in the period leading to the prior deal have anything to do with the bidding war for the current deal between channel 9 and seven and ten ...C7 was long gone and dead by then!!!...wasn't it?!....you may as well say the sky is blue, grass is green, fish swim in the ocean and therefore the current AFL deal was worth more....that's about how logical your point is...

i think packer was trying to make channel seven hurt yes - but this is just plain old competition - they were both bidding for the jewel in the crown of australian sport....AFL....and this is why it is priced as it is...and will be again at the next deal for the same reasons

i guess you're right ...this a RL forum after all and pricking the delusion of contributers by adding some reality based comments is a bit mean...sorry...Ianyway I've had my fun ...please carry on with your backslapping and inane discussions

Rugby Leagues interstate series has been played since 1908. You really do need to do your research. All SoO was for RL that the selection criteria was changed, Rather than state you play in, state you come from... But RL has had 100 of interstate games.

I would love to get to a game & relieve some of this built up tension of having to deal with ignorant AFL supporters & a biased father-in-law that follows the Force. But, I have no ties with the WARL any more. The competition is basically & two horse race at the moment with South Perth & North Beach. My old team Applecross doesn't even exist any more. It was a very strong comp prior to the Reds joining the ARL. After they were booted out the game died. But it is rebuilding. All the junior state teams are usually quite competitive.
