There are plenty of amazing things to see and do around Townsville. Whether you're in the mood for something relaxing, action-packed or guided, there's something to suit everyone's tastes.
Adventures center around the world's largest marine park – the Great Barrier Reef and include diving, snorkeling, fishing, cruising by air or water.
The Great Barrier Reef, visible from outer space and bigger than the United Kingdom - the Reef spans almost 2,500kms and is home to 400 types of coral, 1,500 species of fish and is made up of 3,000 coral reefs. It is in parts two million years old and its oldest sections dated at 18 million years. The Barrier Ref is "don't miss" must.
There are many family activities to do in and around Townsville from the many museums including the Maritime Museum, Military Museum and Museum of Tropical Queensland to the local arts and crafts markets.
Other activities include Billabong Sanctuary - Australia's best interactive wildlife sanctuary or discover the diverse habitats in Bowling Green bay National park - the region's largest coastal park or if the Forests spilling on to the sandy beaches is more your style check out the pristine tropical Goold island. Townsville is a truly tropical haven – only a 60 minute drive north of the city and you hit the rainforest’s of Paluma Range.
